Try your local scrappy (Vehicle Recycler), if not you can also use something like Partfinder on the net, it will usually present you with several options over time. At least this way you will be able to see the different prices and locations. If not you can look for an accident damaged one and try to aquire the gearbox from its owner.

when my 172 is just idling it judders.. more after i have been driving it a little hard.. infact the juddering quite bad..

the click could be the solenoid on the starter motor.
turn the the ignition to the first stop to release the steering lock.
put the car in 5th gear with handbrake off obviously on flat ground,
push the car about half a meter back and forward several times put the car in neutral and try the key ,if it starts then the solenoid or starter moter is on...

I would get the phone book out and ring up some scrapyards car breakers if you buy a used hub with bearing have a look at it for wear.if you want a new hub and bearing phone some motor factors try
2 or 3 they can vary in price as can scrapyards.

how did he manage to drive away with the car?
there will be a linkage between the gear lever and gearbox check to see if it moves properly .check that nothing is loose.
And if you are buying a car AS Seen have a very good look at it first and have a TEST DRIVE before you pay for it!

I think your head gasket has blown. The lumpiness on starting is water in one of the cylinders. When it's running do you see bubbles coming up in the header tank? That's another indicator of a blown head gasket.

Sounds like there's no power to the ignition feed, it's behaving like the ignition is never on. It could be as simple as a fuse.

If I didn't have enough problems with my car, my gear selector has gone really sloppy, It seems to be at the mount under the gear stick. How easy is it to get at it once the heat sheald has been removed. Does the middle section of the exhaust need taking out? How much should I expect the part to cost?

Fuse box readings

If you're measuring voltage drop across the ends of the fuse when the lights are on, and assuming a 55 watt lamp, the fuse holders have a resistance of 0.05 of an ohm (one twentieth of an ohm). Doesn't seem too bad.
On the other hand, you could be measuring current, resistance, capacitance, temperature, length, circumference or anything else!...

When I check the readings on the fuses in the fuse box, most things read zero when on as expected, however the lights all give very small readings, usually 0.2. Could this be an earthing fault? Or a possible short somewhere? Any help would be great. thanks

The heater blower only works on volume 4!! any suggestions? I can;t even see an easy way to get to the back of it - but I've heard that the rheostat (which I presume is the problem) is located away from the switch.

I have a dry bearing type noise comimg from the engine, 1.4 16V, which i cannot locate or identify. It has been suggested that it could be the water pump bearing which is worn allowing the pump to catch on the housing.
Has any one had this problem or make other comments as to the possible cause.

That sounds very much like the problem I've just fixed on my 21.
In my case it was the strut bearings- these allow the strut to rotate for steering. On my 21 they were stiff, meaning that the spring was winding up instead of turning. Sometimes the spring would shift and cause a steering pull because it was wanting to spring back into its proper...

The manual says to use a T shaped spanner and fit it into the holes on the outside of the trim.

Chances are that it's a normal Bosch or Marelli item; have you had a look for any part numbers on the bulb itself and tried a cross reference in Google or such like?
You can be sure that Renault pay as little as possible which normally means it's the same as a few other manufacturers' units.

Just got a big shock from my local renault dealer.... I contacted them for a price for a replacement HID Xenon headlight bulb for my Laguna 2 and I was glad I was sat down!!!!
£150.97 + VAT each!!!!!! (just the bulb)
I know that other cars like BMW, Audi etc use this type of light and I was wondering is anyone knew if the buld is specific...

It sounds like something external has come adrift.
My mate had a similar experience in a SAAB 9000 Turbo and it turned out that the actuator rod had come away from the waste gate, it only took a circlip to restore full power.

Along with my coolant leak I have an oil leak to the right hand side of the engine it isnt spraying up off the drive shaft but it is wet over a large area on the side of the engine.
It seemms as though it could be around the distributur which is bolted to the side of the block Is it possible it could spray via the seal. Has anybody else had...

Guessing a bit from my experiences with other cars.
Usually these are secured with a captive spring clip. Simply tap the joint with a mallet around where the driveshaft goes in. It is easier with the driveshaft completely off the vehicle.

Can anyone offer me some guidance on replacing an outer drive shaft boot on a 1997 Traffic van (2165cc five speed)I can strip down and release the shaft outer end and the joint but cannot see how to remove the joint to replace the boot also unable to find relevant handbook/manual..is it possible by a reasonably skilled diy person...any advice much...

Laguna Fuel Gauge Erratic

The fuel gauge in my Laguna (1.8) shows a normal reading when parked but when driving off the needles drops. I know and expect some movement on the gauge but this is literally dropping to empty from 1/4 tankful. I suspect this is the sender unit? Any ideas on how to rectify this, how easy it is and what the exact part is called?

laguna temperature

My temperature gauge increases with engine speed, when I decrease in speed the gauge comes back down to where it should be. It will sit at one place once going at resonable speed and it does stop at the same point when it does rise. Any ideas?

Coolant temperature sensor - has been reported as problematic on other forums. Don't know specifics for this car / enegine, but shouldn't cost too much to change out. Mind you, if your mechanic has not thought of this, perhaps it's time you found another...??

My keys operate the engine immobiliser and central locking, and neither now work. I know the 4 figure security code for the car, but do not know how to reprogram the plip key.
Anyone out there have any ideas?

laguna steering problems

Hi
We have just had a new fan belt and since then the car sounds terrible when turning. The engine also sounds very fast until after 4th gear.
We had a lot problems with the power steering fluid leaking and wonder if this is causing the creaking. We have been quoted £200 to put in new power steering tubes, does anyone have a cheaper solution....
