Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I am about to go and buy a starter motor for my Renault Megane as mine has died. I've found one at a breakers for £45 which I am happy to pay, but now have the challenge of fitting it...

Erratic Fuel Gauge

How quickly does it go down?
About the same speed as it does when you turn the key off?
If so you have probably nothing more serious than a bad connection.
On the other hand.... the bad connection might be inside the fuel gauge or sender itself. Have you tried tapping all the various bits to see if can recreate the fault?

Laguna 1997 (1.8 petrol)....
The fuel gauge is very rhythmic...It goes all the way down when i'm driving off, but then stabilises on a smooth road..hitting a bump causes it to fluctuate again.
Could this be the gauge itself or the sender unit (which i believe is part of the fuel pump itself?)
Any ideas will be appreciated.

laguna heater

In short, it's located behind the glovebox. To access it, you have to remove the glovebox (6 torx screws). Also, from beneath the glovebox, you have to unscrew the heater blower (bit awkward). Once done, if you follow the two thick wires (1 Red and 1 Black), these will lead you to (and are part of) the resistor.

Does any one happen to know of a good company to contact for rear brake calipers for a Renault GTA ?
It seems most Motor Factors believe this car to be too specialised to have parts available, yet I cant believe this caliper is not shared by any other vehicle on the road.

It depends on your head unit. A lot of the phase one units are Philips in which case you can get a way with a RC CD026 or it may be an Alpine unit. Have recently got one from E-bay and there seems to be alot of complete CD changers and head units for sale both seperate and together. If fitting an Sony unit you must make sure the original head unit...

three different bearings from three different suppliers to me it sounds like either the wrong bearing -older or newer model or that your hub is worn maybe packing the hub with grease before fitting the

If its not 'cold' then chances are the gas may be low. However, before taking it to a garage to 'measure' the gas (which I believe should be around 800g in total), press the A/C button whilst you are stationery but with engine switched on and idling. If you hear the compressor come on then its more than likely low on gas. If compressor does not...

I know Allard engineering in Monmothshire make custom intercoolers you could phone them and ask . another idea is ,I dont know how much space you have under the bonnet but you could try the scrapyards and look at laguna`s or safrane`s if you cant find one for an espace ,maybe kit car mag might have some .

Megane electric aerial.

Quick tip for those with a Megane convertible. If replaceing the electric aerial due to damage instead of going for a dealer part I have to day found that the same aerial is also fitted on to the Mercedes range of cars. Where as Renault want over £136 I found a BERU made one from a simalar motor factor to GSF (european car parts etc) for only £38...

further to my last posting, there is a big ish red box under the headlining, simular to a relay, that looks like it connects to the motor, would this be the controller that determines where the sun roof is relating to the switch position?

hi my Laguna sunroof has decided not to shut to the switch position. Instead when it is meant to be closed the back edge is 1-2cm open. However the moment seems to be fine, as it will open fully both ways.

Ive got a renault clio n reg petrol, only just got it with 1 key/remote. The proplem is i cant turn the alarm/immobiliser off. Ive checked the battery and had the remote checked.

My 1998 1.6 Rt is beginning to do my head in. When the engine is warm or cold, it really doesnt matter, it sometimes takes about 7 turns to fire up. I have just serviced it including plugs and fuel filter. Sometimes it goes for days with no problem then does it again, frequently 2 or 3 times a day. Does it sound like the firing lead or coil packs...

Hi, I have an M reg 2.0l Laguna.
A couple of days ago the fan stopped working, the air con looks to be ok and the lights on the climate control will turn on (which I assumed meant that the fuses were ok).....

normally water pumps on front wheel drive cars are a bit of a pain because of access and cleaning of the old gasket on the block ,but they are usually held on by 7-8 small bolts, if the access isn`t to bad then it`s not to bad generally.but I`ve never done one on a R21
you say it leaks where the pump meets the head? make sure that area is clean...

Try your local scrappy (Vehicle Recycler), if not you can also use something like Partfinder on the net, it will usually present you with several options over time. At least this way you will be able to see the different prices and locations. If not you can look for an accident damaged one and try to aquire the gearbox from its owner.

the click could be the solenoid on the starter motor.
turn the the ignition to the first stop to release the steering lock.
put the car in 5th gear with handbrake off obviously on flat ground,
push the car about half a meter back and forward several times put the car in neutral and try the key ,if it starts then the solenoid or starter moter is on...

I would get the phone book out and ring up some scrapyards car breakers if you buy a used hub with bearing have a look at it for wear.if you want a new hub and bearing phone some motor factors try
2 or 3 they can vary in price as can scrapyards.

how did he manage to drive away with the car?
there will be a linkage between the gear lever and gearbox check to see if it moves properly .check that nothing is loose.

Hi All
I am a newbie to this and am sending this on behalf of a friend (really)
He bought a Laguna 2.0 Auto this morning, unformtunately the automatic 'box only gives him reverse - no forward gears. Any ideas please? He cant take it back as he bought it sold as seen and didnt see it driving.

I think your head gasket has blown. The lumpiness on starting is water in one of the cylinders. When it's running do you see bubbles coming up in the header tank? That's another indicator of a blown head gasket.

Hi,
I have an S reg 1.6 RN Renault Scenic and I am experiencing a water leak problem.
It seems to be very intermittent and sometimes can go for more than a week without dropping. It never seems to loose much water, and the most is only half a header tank.
I notice that when I start it up first thing, it is very lumpy (as if it is missing on one...

Sounds like there's no power to the ignition feed, it's behaving like the ignition is never on. It could be as simple as a fuse.

Just bought a 2001 Clio Alize, got a small problem with the radio cassette. The unit turns off after 20 mins even when driving, i realise it should turn off after a period of time if the ignition is off but it does it all the time. Also, it does not turn on or off when the car is started/stopped like i expected, you have to actually press the...

megane cut out while driving

car cut out at about 40 mph, would'nt restart, fuel system seems to be ok, think it might be the coil or amplifier,anyone know how to test the amplifier, or have any other ideas

get the phone book out and ring round the local scrapyards I had to replace the long one from the left side it had the hub and brake disc
on so if replace the whole thing and have ABS make sure the car it came of has the same spec.

Stuart's wife here - I'm looking for some help:
I've only ever driven two Meganes - one a 2001 1.6 Dynamique + Cabriolet, the other a 2.0 litre version - and only for about 15 minutes each on test drives. I've bought the 2.0 Cab
I noticed on both that the gearsticks were wobbling all over the place whilst in gear and in fact commented on it but...

sloppy gear change

If I didn't have enough problems with my car, my gear selector has gone really sloppy, It seems to be at the mount under the gear stick. How easy is it to get at it once the heat sheald has been removed. Does the middle section of the exhaust need taking out? How much should I expect the part to cost?
