I had the same problem with the spare wheel recess, I tracked down the leak to two possible places. the first was Throught the Gutter run off as there is a pipe running down inside your back rear pillar. And the second seemed to be through the light cluster as the rear brake light used to fill with water and slowly run back and down inside.

If it were a Citroen then it have a tag riveted on to the engine block. Have a look at the block for any smooth flat surface or any small legend plates. These should have sone form of engine identifier. If not get the local dealer to have alook for the price of a beer or better for free.

don't consider converting to GPL ; frankly the valves ,seats etc are junk . I've run volvo and audi to 200,000 miles on gpl , like new . 50, 000 on this engine and the cylinder head is junked . I,ve visited a engine rebuild specialist who said ....it's a renault , not an audi or volvo ; the component quality is not the same , we have had chrysler...

Try holding the trip recorder button in, turning the ignition on and keeping the trip button pressed for ten seconds (maybe longer).
It worked for my Xantia, a Xsara and an Astra.

Sounds like it could be low brake fluid?
Is this with the handbrake on?
Sometimes handbrake lights can have a second function such as fluid level or pad wear. It would be strange for the stop light to come on for pad wear though.

If you take the carpet out of the boot you'll find a cover that gives you access to the tank unit. If it only leaks when running it must be from one of the pipes in there, not necessarily from a bit you can see but it might give you an idea. The tanks can be troublesome on those.

Just to let you know... have a good friend that is a car electrician diagnosed the fault, and despite all the specialist knowledge from RENAULT, it seems the blower heater had blown and was taking too much current blowing a fuse that RENAULT said wasn't there so thats why i was getting a dead feed

the problem is it only does it when turning right which makes roundabouts a bit of a problem . i have checked the coil and other electrical faults which leads me to think that it can only be the fuel filter. so does anyone know of any other things it could be before i have to take off...

Well it at first looks like 'rad weld' to stop a water leak. This would acount for the heater not letting out much heat. On second look becasue of the colour it could be rad weld with copper in it. This agin could be pointing to the heater. You sure there's no leaks? You definatly need to change that bottle cap as it seems a little leaky. This...

My Laguna Mk1 1998 1.8 8v RT uses it's water fairly quickly-like from maximum to minimum mark on header tank in 500miles or so. I can't see any leaks anywhere, the only thing I notice is the heater doesn't kick out loads of heat implying heater matrix may be duff so this is possibly where it's going. Another thing that bugs me is what the hell...

A non-internet friend recently had the front pads on his Laguna diesel replaced. Now the brakes are solid when the motor is stopped but go to the floor when the motor is started. Maybe I should also mention the car was in the shop for work on the auto transmission when the pads were noted as badly worn.
The brakes have been bled several times...

1997 Megane Central Locking

I cannot open one of my passengers doors, centrally or manually. The door lever (?) does move but not high enough to open the door. Any ideas why one door will fail to open when all others open with central locking. As the door is locked shut, how do I get the interior door panel off from inside the car.

I need to order a rear exhaust hanger for my girlfriend's 1.2 S reg Clio (mk2) but aren't sure which one to get from GSF as there about 7 listed with different parts numbers. The rubber is square and fits into a box shaped bracket attached to a plate that bolts onto the body.

Quite a lot of that will be labour but it still seems a little excessive to me. When an engine has suffered that kind of trauma you're right in thinking a whole new unit is the best bet.
The same engine can be found in a Renault Clio (old shape), 19, 21 (The 21 has 2 diesels- your one mounted transversely and a much bulkier one mounted...

we have a N reg megane with a broken engine. The cam belt snapped (72,000 - may have been the original) and the engine jammed. It has been examined by the garage who have quoted figures of £1000. Yes they are part of the suspension.On the front,you would have a strut,which your wheels & brakes are fitted to,Inside the strut is the shock absorber,then on the outside of that you have a coil spring.The shock absorbs the bumps etc,the spring helps smooth it all out.Basicly the same at the rear but no struts.Shock absorbers will wear...

intermittent starter

I don`t know what car you have but normally replacing the starter motor is a straight forward job disconnect the battery remove the main feed cable from the starter motor take off the spade connector from the solenoid then the two nuts holding on the starter motor itself .

Hi there,
I had the same problem with my V6. The clutch did need replacing and unless you have a vehicle lift which will lift the car off the wheels is not a job for the home. It is also expensive!! I would suggest that while the garage has the gearbox out to get them to check the slave cylinder as if this goes then the box has to come out again...

it has become very difficult to select gears especially reverse in my 92 v6 espace. I presume it will need a new clutch as i can select gears if the engine is not started. My question is... is this a job for the garage or can it be done at home.

I had a couple of similar experiences with my Laguna cutting out. Very worrying on the M25 at 80!
Mine is 1995 2.0 RT. The garage replaced the starter motor (I had some non starts), distributor and rotor arm - one of these fixed the problem.
As for the temperature, I suffer from high temp too. This is my second Laguna and it runs a lot hotter...

I recently bought a 1998 laguna 2.0 5 door,which is a great car to look at and drive except when ive been driving for 30 mins or there abouts it starts to cut out plus the temp gauge seems to go straight to half way from the start...so 2 questions...
Q1...has anyone else had the cutting out problem and if so what was the cause and solution..???...

Dear All
Thinking of changing my trusty 1997 TD Xantia for a Laguna II 1.9 Diesel. Probably be a 2001 or 2002 model.
Any help comments would be appreciated on things to look out for e.t.c.
I notice that some have 6 speed gearboxes, there is a 105bhp and 120 bhp engine - Are they noticibly different in performance/economy.

Bought the wife a runaround 18 Months ago - A Clio 1.2 Oasis 3door
Zippy around town but not great at long distances. Only problem encountered was with the alternator - Easy change apart from the room around it. Overall she is very happy with it. She gets 40 - 45 mpg. Price looks OK. Don't know whether the one you are looking at is a 3 or 5...

Laguna 1.8 Idles at 3,000 RPM!

Changed head gasket and had it skimmed. 8 valve, 1998. Re assembled and it idles at 3,000 RPM, and hunts. I suspect it has something to do with the idle valve but why it should go since the head change I have no idea. All help appreciated please.

don't do it ethel .concensus of opinion is that it is nowhere as effient as a quality standard air filter . if it was any good the manufacturers would make something similar and fit it

Hi, I'm looking to buy a K&N induction kit for my clio , it's a 1994 on a M ,1.4 spi. Can anyone tell me the K&N code for my car ? i belive it to be 57-0052. From what i've read there are two variations for the 1.4 spi , 2 screws in air box and 3 screws in air box , my car has 2 bolts securing the air box to the trottle body and 1 screw holding...

Personally I would strongly suspect the master cylinder, the symptoms you describe are in keeping with it being past its 'sell by date'.
You could try bleeding the system and flushing it out, if possible use a pressure kit such as 'Gunsons' in order to make sure no air is trapped in the system, failing that then as above as far as I can see.

A worn wheel bearing can cause long pedal travel. Play in the bearing can allow the disc to move, forcing the brake pads out. This leaves the brakes needing to take up the play before they can work. A loose driveshaft nut can cause the same thing.

How are the drums looking? If past their max dia size you'll have bad braking as the shoes won't be able to contact the drum surface enough.

Hi All,
Have searched forum but can't find an answer, hence my post.
My wife has a clio m reg (1.2 or 1.4, can't remember), but it has failed the MOT for the rear brakes! The front brakes are good, the rear handbrake is good. On the rolling road, when pressure applied to pedal, not a lot on the rear wheels. I have replaced the rear rubber brake...

No Electric Rear Windows...Why?.

Fitted the rear electric windows and leather doorcards to my Laguna before. Have already fitted the front leather doorcards and was happy to find when i did the drivers side door had all the wiring tucked away for the electric mirrors and rear electric window switches. Have connected it all up, but the rear windows won't work...am i missing...

renault faulty hand brake

It may help temporarily if you park the vehicle in gear. If the handbrake should fail at least there is the possibility that the gearbox will stop it rolling away.
Or place a house brick behind each rear wheel!

Clio wiper problem

You've probably blown a fuse. Renault wipers will park with the ignition off so the park function must be protected by a different fuse from the wiping function.
I think a look through the fusebox will solve your problem. Let us know if that works or not.

Hi,
We have a Clio 1.2 Oasis, 1996 (N reg). Made the mistake of trying the windscreen wipers when they were frozen to the screen - thought they were free. Since then they wil, not stop in the correct position. They stop when you switch them off - no matter where they are on the screen.
Has anyone else seen this and, if so, how did you fix it?...
