stuck window after battery removal

Post by rob78 »

bonjour mes amies!

long time no see, have once again dipped my toe into the murky pool that is french car ownership, and now due to the other half buying a car that she thought "had a high clutch because it was old" *rolls eyes* got lumbered with a 1.4 megane mk 2 that needed a clutch.

the garage replaced the clutch and at some point of the process removed the battery, now the front windows have gone belly up.

the passengers side went up and down in stages, so i did the "hold for 10 sec" at each limit trick and thats sorted that, however the drivers one wont do anything, I would think a BSI reset is first step but as i cant open the window im a bit stumped, does it have to be down for the reset to work?

can i have someone sat in car to turn the lights on as per the BSI reset procedure ?

or do i have to pull the door card and put 12v straight onto the window to get it down ?

any help would be appreciated as my other half is driving round in it as is part of her homecare job and having a "meltdown" literally as its 23 degrees here today :rofl2:

Follow this procedure, although in the Citroen section it is the same for Renault.

Ignore the bit of necessary regarding the lights on if that is inconvenient, but essential you observe timings and do not open doors until specified. It’s all explained here:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Daughter has the passenger window fail on her Megane C+C the day after she bought it. Switch in the door failed and is apparently a common fault. Wouldn't operate from either the driver or passenger controls.

i was hoping its nothing as serious as that!

i know the battery was taken off to get to some part of the gearbox so ive got my fingers crossed that a proper reset wil cure it, however what threw me out was doing the bits "through the window" so to speak, as thats the original problem!

Do perform the procedure that Marc suggested.
I have had to do this at work when the battery failed, had to leave the car at work outdoors overnight so had to close the windows.
Did it with the driver door open and all went fine. It is more of a concern on an hydraulic Citroen as the suspension ECU and pump kick in when a door is opened so can mess the process up but is likely less of a concern with a Renault but, you could either have someone sat in the driver's seat before reconnecting the battery and do the necessary - or sit there yourself and have them connect the battery.
I didn't have that option unfortunately.

Put it in a Faraday pouch (or a tin box if you don't have one).
