So the odd fix for an odd fault is as follows:

As long as we've had this car it's boot has shut with a bit of a rattle and bit of a clang.

The rattle seemingly, was this lot:
Rock hard lumps of seam sealer and a broken clip
Rock hard lumps of seam sealer and a broken clip
These were floating about in the void between two layers of the boot structure.

The clang was these two "links" between outer and inner, seemingly bonded together with a black sealant. In service life of that is obviously long past as neither link was actually stuck to the other surface!

Oh, aye! I don't do nowt by halves! :rofl2:
but I'm more interested in how you got the brown lid to crack in the centre. There must be a story there as it doesn't look like a cut mark.
Odd isn't it! Sorry I don't know the back story as ...
As foretold by wise Homer
As foretold by wise Homer
Has had the crack for more than 15 years bins older than our ownership of the house.

Two theories:
  • Poor molding plus thermal stress from the sun
    Or
  • Poor substitute for a step, not quite failing catastrophically but not happy being stood on!

I worked out I could pop rivet the two struts in place and better yet that the rivet heads would sit behind the numberplate. So that's what I did!
Black gunge a bit of waterproofing, a bit of it's claimed "reduces drumming"

I bought some "matching" spray paint from Halfords, it's fair to say given reg number and then paint code inputted for it to come up with this choice and think it matches in terms of "grey" and "metallic" and that's about it!

Yes, pretty terrible! Nevermind. I've got two tins if this stuff in the way:
https://ebay.us/m/sGiJ0S
KTH GRIS THORIUM GREY FOR PEUGEOT AEROSOL SPRAY PAINT 400ML
Hopefully a good match.

Oh, and in my usual "not really a significant problem but I'll fix it anyway" approach, the rear numberplate lamps, which seem to shine light up inside the handle/trim as much as actually at the number plate! Now have stainless steel (ex cooker hood) reflectors to bounce the light back down again:
Before

And after:

Were they really that difficult to keep hold of? Or are you just clumsy? :-D A video like that might seem silly to us that 'know' but some will find that informative (yes, I'm thinking of people born after 1999).

I've had a thorough search and one seems to have gone missing - back down to two again. Must have been a trick of the light, fooled the camera and made it look like three!
Pretty sure it wasn't one of those AI errors :rofl2:
