HP5 was 400asa so very grainy, was designed for low light. I used to use it and bring out the grain with a fine acutance developer.
I like a bit of grain in my photos Maurice

Gives them character

And goodness only knows, with me taking the photos they need all the character they can get

HP5+ developed in Ilfosol 3 (a hydroquinone based formulation) is not massively noticeably grainy unless subject to close scrutiny although Kentmere 400 is slightly more so but as it's the cheap, budget stuff that's to be expected..
I have a few rolls on Kentmere 100 (100ASA) on order so it'll be interesting to compare the two. I also plan to push one roll at 200ASA and see how that looks...
Meanwhile, one of my apple trees this afternoon taken on my DSLR

Although set to 400ASA it's hardly grainy at all. It's taken me a while to appreciate that digital ASAs are a lot different in character to film ASAs. I can push my DSLR all the way up to 6400ASA before noise becomes obvious!

I'm following progress of the soft and hard fruit in my garden on a daily basis and photographing progress. I'm seeing growth every day now...

Indeed, a good saving and the ability to cram another dozen frames in.
I'm very tempted. Bulk loaders and bulk film stock is readily available
