Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
Mine is going in on the 25th July for a couple of days, Actually sounds ok but pleased it is being done. Service manager seems a decent guy, going to try and look at the old parts just for curiosity .

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
Well at least there's some assurance there. I keep having a listen but you end up getting paranoid
as every little click and tick makes you wonder if it's chain related - and being a diesel of course makes it worse to detect.
I have mine dealer-serviced yearly with very low mileage (2-3k) so any future contribution should be looked on favourably - and the fact I have raised my concerns via email.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
I will report back here when the job is done with any useful info I can get. I might have another one that will need doing at some time,,, I have a friend here in France that had a 3008 / 1.2 Puretech, It had 2 belts under warranty but was still giving her problems and was needing a third, plus It drank more oil than I drink Guinness. After riding in my car, she traded it in at a loss and bought one just like mine after I told her the PSA diesels are no problem.... It is about time they got their act together and made something reliable. In the past I had a Mazda 6 that ate chains, I put 3 in while I had it, 1 was poss faulty and parts changed under warranty but still a load of work, I have also heard of BMW's with chain probs... Maybee it is just chain manufacturers

Well all I can hope for is that there continues to be a push-back against us all having Milk Floats and more people chuck them in and return to a petrol / diesel and that they don't stop providing a good supply of ICE vehicles and parts for a good while yet.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
Just got my car back from Citroen garage, New chain, cams and all associated parts changed. Runs like a clock.
I asked to see the old parts but service manager said they where already packed up to return to Citroen.
Can't fault my dealer, their customer service is brilliant, Any one in the Dordogne in need it is Citroen, Deluc Group @ Trellisac, Perigueux

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
Great, and I assume they have applied the 8mm cam chain upgrade too Steve.
Some people I know are getting their cam chain alone replaced for the same 7mm one for some piece of mind.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
Excellent - though I note on the service document concerning the upgrade to the 8mm, that if the same problems arise with after the conversion to 8mm, they are to forward a dealer incident report on. So hopefully this won't also be issue going forward...

Mine just broke one morning. 6000 euros repair. It rages me PSA knows and never recalled the vehicles, just sat on their hands waiting for the ticking bombs to go off and charge the owners.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
These should be covered under some extended warranty - as long as you have had it correctly serviced at the correct times and to the correct servicing requirements.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
During the 2 year warranty it had, it was serviced at citroen. After that, elsewhere, according to the maintenance plan. I contacted citroen asking for reimbursement of the repair, they declined. After that, it would be a tedious court process. I lost money, they lost a client.GiveMeABreak wrote: 29 Jul 2024, 11:05 These should be covered under some extended warranty - as long as you have had it correctly serviced at the correct times and to the correct servicing requirements.
I have been told by other owners facing the same problem that when these faults were corrected at citroen, they still charged the owner (if outside the warranty period). I'm in portugal. Might be different elsewhere.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
It depends on the exact issue. There are known issues with the camshaft timing chain and the repair is to replace this with an 8mm chain along with a substantial number of other components including exhaust valves etc. They (Citroen) are generally providing extended warranty for this issue, - as long as the car has a full service history and at the correct intervals (yearly or within specified mileage - BUT whichever comes first).

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
Citroen's way to try to keep customers!
I was thinking about buying a C5 Aircross 1.5 diesel but because they (Citroen) like a full service history done by them or other 'reputable' garages. A person like myself who tends to do the servicing and repairs to cars is not good enough.
I will forgo the pleasure of own one. There are issues as well which caused me to make this decision.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
I took our 308 back to the dealer yesterday and it was making the whirr whirr / thrumming sound on tick over when we got there so no need to show the video we took. They had a listen and said it was normal on the 1.5 hdi and they do not do anything until it loses power or a fault code comes up. For now then we hope it does not get worse but were told being low mileage and serviced by them it would be covered. At 5 years old I would normally diy service a car but not this one in case there is a claim if the cam chain fails.

Re: C5 Aircross Timing Chain
That's probably a wise move. I also have mine recorded via email raising my concerns and we have our Citroen services every year despite only doing 3k miles a year.
