A slightly unusual plant, but not two different coloured flowers on one stem in case you wondered. :)

"Melampyrum nemorosum is an herbaceous flowering plant in the family Orobanchaceae. It is native to Europe. In Sweden it is called natt och dag. (Night and Day) In Russia it is called Ivan-da-Marya. (Ivan and Maria) a Christianisation of the traditional Slavic Kupalo-da-Mavka (Kupalo-and-Mavka).

This is an annual plant. The new leaves are blue, turning green as they mature. They are usually toothed at the bases. "

I just mentioned to a neighbour yesterday that I have only seen two butterflies this year.

Her is the third, cleverly disguised against the background. Thinks it's a cabbage white.

Foxgloves, in seasonal profusion and compelling a shutter click on a little visit to Roxburgh, a little hamlet which surprisingly proved to be the subject of today's "One for the Train buffs" here

Lovely Neil. Some years ago they cut the trees down in the forest above our garden, my wife was bemoaning the mess when shortly afterwards the whole area was covered in foxgloves, never seen anything like it. Whether the seeds were lying dormant and the sun reaching them caused this I don't know - but something did.

That must have been some time ago as they have just cut the trees down again! They were larch and apparently picked up some disease.

I have a feeling that foxglove seeds can lie dormant in the ground in the right conditions for up to 100 years...... or something daft like that. :-D

Waxoyl and Hammerite.
100 POTD points for an original photo posted up on this very thread of either by the end of play today. :-D

If you are a regular viewer or poster on POTD you may well have noticed POTD Can special and the Waxoyl and Hammerite Challenge.

Sadly the challenge expired without a single entry and loose ends need tying up.
