Portugal have just moved out of burning coal in power generation. They said they would by 2030 at COP23 in Bonn Germany, but have gone coal free nine years early.
Only slight blot what are the plans to replace coal with, and the most likely thing is conversion to burn Wood Pellets.
The Plant is owned by Endesa, the mainly Spanish Energy Giant, owned in turn by Enel whose major shareholder is the Italian State. As of 2018, Enel was the second largest power company in the world by revenue after the State Grid Corporation of China.
Yes sounds like the DRAX approach, and its crazy logistics, and dubious CO2 claims. Page one Post one of the thread starts off with the DRAX wood pellet trains seen at first hand thundering through Hebden Bridge Station on their final journey from Southern USA to Liverpool to DRAX. In a final twist of madness, the carefully pressed and dried wood pellets are returned to wood dust at DRAX to fuel the boilers.
