Hypocrisy watch number 1.

4 days after COP26 closes which of the participants comes up with the biggest slice of hypocrisy...the largest ever sale of oil and gas drilling leases that particular important part of the natural environment has ever seen. :?:

Not content with being the second largest polluter on the planet it would seem.

Find out for yourself, it involves 80 million acres for fossil fuel extraction.

I'm not in a position to influence world markets Neil. :) but I had a domestic surprise this week, Shell reduced my £47 a month energy (gas and electricity) direct debit to £30 a month, said I'm building up too much credit on the account.

That's the way to do it! Use less Gas! on an individual scale.

On a European Scale, volatility of Gas price looks set to continue, with those disputes over Nordstream 2 and Ukraine and Belarus/Poland. Germany appear to have come up with a bit of bureaucracy to stall things, but very late in the day, and it will just be a bargaining chip, the thing is built and one way or another Russian Gas is going to come through it at some point.

Curiosity had me delving into the pipelines between Russia and Europe, existing and in use.

bit out of date (2009) but helps a bit with the geography.

The link I posted has the Chapter and Verse

https://www.harmonyenergy.co.uk/general ... ny-energy/

Another small step, in increasing energy storage capacity within the UK, and a business model getting repeated, and securing investors. Peter Kavanagh, Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Energy claims
“It’s widely recognised that battery storage is critical to achieving Net Zero in the UK and projects of this size – delivered without subsidies – will be vital in providing flexibility to the grid..”

They're not joking about battery storage being critical to achieving (on paper) net zero. I heard on the radio the other day that we've had to lowest sustained wind speeds for 50 years. I'd guess that's punched a bit of a hole in the output from our wind farms :(

Most of his stuff has been interesting but from that I think he's been taking too much notice of Greta and become a real Job's comforter.

I'm not a global warming denier but I am a sceptic based on the science, the 'pre industrial' figures they talk about all the time were reckoned to be accurate to plus or minus 3 degrees, there was no worldwide measurement 150 years ago of temperature, in the developed world at that time measurements were made by enthusiastic amateurs with in many cases home made equipment, the accuracy of which cannot be ascertained, nor can the accuracy of the record keeping.

Today we have atomic clocks and satellite weather recorders monitoring every aspect of the whole world climate and comparing it to the primitive stuff we had back then.

Bulb has gone under: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59373198

By far the largest so far, so is in Special Administration, which means the Government is running it. We are with them, wait to see what is offered in replacement. No doubt there is going to be a hike....

Portugal have just moved out of burning coal in power generation. They said they would by 2030 at COP23 in Bonn Germany, but have gone coal free nine years early.

Only slight blot what are the plans to replace coal with, and the most likely thing is conversion to burn Wood Pellets.
The Plant is owned by Endesa, the mainly Spanish Energy Giant, owned in turn by Enel whose major shareholder is the Italian State. As of 2018, Enel was the second largest power company in the world by revenue after the State Grid Corporation of China.

Yes sounds like the DRAX approach, and its crazy logistics, and dubious CO2 claims. Page one Post one of the thread starts off with the DRAX wood pellet trains seen at first hand thundering through Hebden Bridge Station on their final journey from Southern USA to Liverpool to DRAX. In a final twist of madness, the carefully pressed and dried wood pellets are returned to wood dust at DRAX to fuel the boilers.
