Personally, I would start looking for a replacement screen, before they become so scarce the price becomes more painful.

Hadn't thought of that Marc. Is there any way of identifying it without removing it?

Here's a link for some repairers of the RT* systems:
viewtopic.php?t=60781
Your Multi-function screen is part: 659371 or the superseded part is 6593Q4.
The RT4 Head Unit will depend on colour of your internal trim:
Matinal Anodizzato which is the light coloured RT4 unit, part: 6574AE or 6574AF or:
Nero Mistral which is the black RT4 unit, part: 6574AA or 6574AC

Re: X7 satnav fault. Can I swap it for a used one?
Another anomaly with my satnav. Just come back from sunny Scotland and the satnav seems to have had a nervous breakdown, I selected 'traffic information' nothing happened, about an hour later it suddenly appeared on top of the of the navigation map and I can't get rid of it so can't see the map. Every now and again it disappears only to return shortly afterwards. I assume this is yet another fault in the electronics - or I don't know how to operate it. Can anyone help? Marc?

If your referring to the TMC, that's broadcast on FM and will keep popping up with updates - have a look at the owner's manual Peter - here's an extract:
TMC traffic information consists of messages transmitted by FM radio stations.
As opposed to the road information flashes broadcast by radio (TA), TMC (Traffic Message Channel) messages are coded and silent. You can filter the types of information that interest you.
Your NaviDrive issues messages written in the selected language (including in a foreign country where your language is not that of the local radio stations).
The messages contain:
Traffic information is shown on the map by means of the symbols opposite (Refer to your Handbook for the symbols Peter)
Note: These symbols may be accompanied by an arrow indicating in which traffic direction they are situated.
Quality of the TMC information
Depending on the station selected, the traffic information may be more or less complete and precise, or cover a larger or smaller area. Each radio station is individually responsible for the quality of the information that it broadcasts.
Availability of the Information
When the FM station selected is able to broadcast TMC information, the multifunction screen displays the symbol “TMC”.
When the FM station selected is unable to broadcast TMC information, the “TMC” symbol appears shaded.

Re: X7 satnav fault. Can I swap it for a used one?
Thanks again Marc. This information is coming up without the radio being turned on, I selected 'traffic information' on the satnav menu, as I said nothing appeared at first then after sometime it was showing a screen full of bulletins from all over the country but none apparently from where were. If I fiddled with the select wheel on the steering wheel the bulletins would sometimes disappear only to return only to return a few seconds of minutes later, nothing I did would retain the navigation map. I can't find any way of de selecting the info. The sound was still there - now I have got it to work but no map.

Re: X7 satnav fault. Can I swap it for a used one?
TMC works in conjunction with the Navigation on the RT4. There are options you can set I think to filter out the sorts of messages and also, more importantly the radius around the vehicle for alerts. So it may be that you need to have a look at what has been set up previously and tweak it to your needs. Ideally you only want what is relevant to near your current position - but you should be able to set this up. I could on my NG4, as if you don't you'll end up with what's going on in Wales rather than Dorset!

Re: X7 satnav fault. Can I swap it for a used one?
Fortunately I knew where I was going but left the satnav running just to check. Never had this happen before so presumably I must have changed something, no idea what though. If it was analogue and had valves in it I might get somewhere.

Re: X7 satnav fault. Can I swap it for a used one?
I think my satnav is toast now. You can select navigation, enter a destination and preferences and as soon as you click 'OK' the screen fills with traffic information, no map. Pressing the wiper stalk will sometimes bring the map up briefly but it reverts to traffic information within a few seconds. I take it the electronics are in the radio section, does it require coding to the car or is it a straight swap?
I have tried every combination of button pressing to no avail.
Help! Anyone, probably Marc.

Re: X7 satnav fault. Can I swap it for a used one?
You've probably got the TMC filters setup all wrong Peter. These can swamp you out and overload you if not careful and depending where you are of course in the Country.
I would suggest you press the MENU button, turn the dial to select the Traffic Information or TMC setting, press to confirm, then either find the setting to turn it off, or select the Filter Traffic Information option.
Under Geographic Fiters, if you have 'Around the Vehicle enabled, then any traffic announcement within 10 paces is going to be flagged up! You can change this to On the Route - which only picks up messages en route.
You may need to experiment with this to get it right. There may be options to turn on or off certain other filters so you only get what you need.
Do you have your manual for the RT4? If not let me know.

Thanks Marc I will try that. This has all happened since it intermittently stopped navigating, the map stayed there but the road turns red and just carries on.

Mmm.... maybe the mapping data has become corrupt - or dare I say it the hard drive starting to show signs of wear. Maybe time to reinstall the maps again to see if that helps?

Re: X7 satnav fault. Can I swap it for a used one?
There are lots of screens and head units advertised but for silly money, they don't seem to be selling them and there are loads of C5s being scrapped surly there can't be that much demand for replacement units. It would be much cheaper for me to buy a new stand alone satnav. The car is not going to be worth that much soon.
