Cheers Jim, lots of good information there.

I hope to have a day off soon to get stuck into it without being dragged away from it!

Hopefully my Battery will turn up today so I can get it fitted and mobile again.

Do you have a any fuse box diagrams showing what is what by any chance?

Cento, if you can post your VIN, we should be able to post fuse box details for the car.

Cheers Jim, it certainly smells it 😂

Ran out of time (and energy) to do anything productive as I had to fit a new boot harness to my XF as well (common fault).

Next job is to try sort out why the osr door doesn't work, check some fuses and get the central locking working, and then spheres are the big necessity so I can start driving it!

As you can access the concertina sleeve with the drivers door open I would suggest you look in there for any failed wires. It is a known problem for wires to fail there (I have had this happen on my last Xantia). Using a soldering iron and heat shrink sleeving I added about 6" wire per failed wire, and the doors were then working properly.

She is looking a LOT better (and that beer is well earned and thoroughly deserved!).

The last owner disabled the CDL for a bettery drain (unsuccessfully by the look of it) so I'll get the amp clamp out and see whats draining it and get the CDL working again.

I REALLY hate that it has 3 keys and non actually lock the drivers door though 😂

Just ordered some tailored mats and a new gear knob and gaiter as the inside will be done then, well other than the missing parcel shelf, that's another thing to add to the list.

Just need to sell a kidney for a respray 🤣

I'm more excited to get it driving right tbh, looks like it's had a new, very poorly fitted exhaust, that needs sorting.

Can't wait to be able to use it, waited a long time for this!

Day 2.

Checked Hydractive relay, blown.

Disconnected battery.

Fitted that little box of suspension tricks of ebay.

Fit new fuse.

Sport button now working, suspension is self levelling and goes up and down a lot faster than previously.

I can now bounce all 4 corners whereas before the suspension was all solid?

Could this have been issue rather than spheres?

Also, the previous owner disconnected the central locking? I'm not sure how, fuse is present and ok?

Cheers

Mucho progress. Well done.

With Hydractive, certain faults with the system are programmed to default to Soft mode, and others (particularly while driving) will default to Firm –- the latter for handling stability/safety reasons. So it's possible that your firm ride was simply the result of a system fault, rather than spheres.

Hydractive is actually self-checking for faults, each time you turn on the ignition. When a fault is detected, the Suspension light on the dash should let you know, either by not extinguishing after a few seconds, or by flashing. (You should be in Normal, not Sport mode, to correctly see this.)

The suspension ECU runs a check on itself (clever!) and almost all of the connected sensors, looking for correct connections and resistance values. About the only items not checked thoroughly are the front and rear Electrovalves. These are checked for presence, but not mechanical action; neither are the embedded diodes checked to see whether they have blown open (only shorted, which is rare). That's why fitting the e-Crofting kit (or a pair of protection diodes of your own) is (a) a good idea, and (b) often a cure for an EV fault not detected.

Anyway, good news!

If you'd like a good read on how the Hydractive (and Activa) systems work, this is worth downloading:

Go to 'Suspension'.

I wonder why it didn't show a fault when the Hydractive fuse had blown (and had been for a long time by the look of the old fuse).
