I didn't realise that Lada had been taken under the Renault wing until I went to that Dacia site Neil.

Me neither Gibbo....their latest product seems to be the LADA Largus

All ICE, but I did come across an electric LADA, which they built under special order at the factory, when following a Dutch chap (on you tube!) who was driving from Holland to Australia in an electric VW relying on people he met to help him on his way.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 15 Mar 2019, 17:24 Our Dutch friend stayed with a chap in Moscow who had an electric Lada, which he recharged with a long wire from his 3rd Floor apartment. At the time the factory manufacture them to order.

Part of the negotiations getting a new or used car in the old days of ICE, used to be getting a full tank of petrol.

Sign up to a contract on a Vauxhall corsa-e and you get 30,000 miles of free fuel, 10,000 miles /year 36 month PCP

and who are the "British Brand since 1903"'s, Spanish-made e-corsa's, partners in the energy freebie.....British Gas the UK's biggest as of now energy provider, keen to get their foot in the door.

Pour over the small print here.

Have a look at any of the "manufacturers websites" for choice of ev's and options on colours/trim/wheels etc, and then the "finance offers" for Personal Contract hire/Personal Contract Purchase/Hire Purchase.

I think most are extremely poor. Mini's is awful, and out of date with respect to the plug-in grant which changed on 18th March 2021.

If you can put up with the potential pitfalls of hiring a car, and lets face it it is getting more and more difficult to actually acquire the use of a new car by the old fashioned method of buying it, there are of course a number of hiring options.

All the dealers and manufacturers want you to take their finance, and all the "offers" are for PCP, or PCH.

Taking it just a shade further is the subscription service. Some manufacturers eg Porsche Volvo are promoting the subscription model. Here is a UK player in the subscription field. With subscription you have no long term hire contract but on a monthly basis can decide to continue/hand back/or swap. All the costs of the vehicle are wrapped up in the monthly charge, tax, insurance, repairs and maintenance, breakdown cover 24/7 support and no deposit.
1 month commitment no deposit.
No more 3 year contracts! Decide monthly whether you want to continue, swap or stop.

Don't bother clicking the get started button unless you want them to take your personal details to register there and then, but the cars and the prices can be viewed on this page. If you scroll down past the hopelessly designed white space and button clicking con trick.

On.to Car Subscription

When you talk about hiring Neil I wonder how the oldies will get on, if you're in your seventies or older many of the hire companies don't want to know you even if you just want to rent a car for the weekend.

Winning one will be the only way I can see of me getting a new car. Really even if I could I wouldn't get a new car.
Whatever method you use to purchase, buy/hire or subscribe to for a new car, you pay for the huge depreciation over the early years. That just wouldn't sit well with me.

If anyone scanned the range available on my on.to link, for the all-in easy in easy out subscription service, the monthly charges for the privilege of doing 1000 miles a month, with my bargain basement attitude are just madness. Others may enjoy the new car experience of course, and as I look around the UK fleet of cars, many people appear to be quite willing to shell out a considerable amount each month of their hard-earned to run round in new/newish cars.

I have a general aversion to hiring anything. That's the beauty of having the BB Micra taxed Mot'ed and Insured on standby. At least if someone runs a trolley into into the BB Micra, the dreaded damage assessment card with the hole the size of a 10p piece will not be brought out. Not that I have ever fallen foul of such things to date, its just the ever present fear that the excess will be invoked for the least bit thing.

Apart from removal vans, the last car I hired was a yellow Ford Escort in 1968.
Picked up in Middlesbrough, driven to Manchester to see an old (sorry, former) girlfriend, then to Felixstow, left there to be collected, boarded the ferry to Sweden. Stayed there.
I quite liked the Escort.
