If you had photographed the number of the Pylon I would have have a good chance of pinpointing exactly where you were Jim. Some of the old railway bridges round here on lines ripped up in the 60's still have their old reference numbers painted on the bridge.

Meanwhile, you can identify fairly easily where I was by following the course of the old railway as it runs southeast out of Olney
A lot of bridges carrying disused lines around here remain, often not complete and frequently just abutments, but do still carry numbers as care and maintenance still falls to the successor of the old BRB (Residuary)... I believe Network Rail hived it off to someone else but to whom now escapes me...
It's amazing just how much still exists if you go looking for it... And just how much, viaducts especially, is now Grade 2 listed...
