I never did keep the handbooks for my early cars but I did keep hold of the Haynes BoL for the Renault 4...

That was back in the days when Haynes Manuals were proper workshop manuals... You could almost build a new R4 from scratch using it :D

And now for something a bit different although I guess you could stretch the definition and say it is a form of transport!

Well, if you got it up to a decent rate of RPM and then released the wheel from its' mounts it would travel a fair old distance!

I was reminded about The Great Panjandrum;

which was developed for beach warfare.

You manage to dig out some amazing things of great interest James :D

I'm not sure how you do it but I'm pleased you do!

It's very clever to test something top secret in plain sight - nobody takes any notice of it, they totally fail to appreciate what it might be and attaches no significance to it ;)

I would hazard the same applied to Barnes Wallace testing his bouncing bombs...

Well not a bad crop on POTD today....the weather has been awful all day again up here but I did take a couple of shots of charging up in a downpour. Naked eye it was a reasonable composition, rain streaming down the windcreen giving a natural texture to to the scene outside while designer blurring it. Lovely bright yellow blue and red illuminated Lidl sign, and the charge point with its illuminated sceen in the left of the frame.

So what did it turn out like :?:

It lasted for some of my bike ride but it did seriously cloud over later... I did enjoy an excellent ride today, it was unbelievably mild but very windy at times...

Hard to imagine that up until the early 1960s a railway lie ran along here...

And where I'm standing there was a lovely masonry bridge. Demolished when the railway closed and a rough embankment created to carry the road...

I posted this mainly for the lovely 132Kv pylon in the background. In some days when atmospheric conditions promote it, you can hear it crackling as you ride underneath... And it makes the hair on the back of your neck tingle :)

If you had photographed the number of the Pylon I would have have a good chance of pinpointing exactly where you were Jim. Some of the old railway bridges round here on lines ripped up in the 60's still have their old reference numbers painted on the bridge.

I often ride past this pylon and others on the same line so next time I will :)

Meanwhile, you can identify fairly easily where I was by following the course of the old railway as it runs southeast out of Olney ;)

A lot of bridges carrying disused lines around here remain, often not complete and frequently just abutments, but do still carry numbers as care and maintenance still falls to the successor of the old BRB (Residuary)... I believe Network Rail hived it off to someone else but to whom now escapes me...

It's amazing just how much still exists if you go looking for it... And just how much, viaducts especially, is now Grade 2 listed...

Seeking out old and long disused railway infrastructure is a great passion of mine :D In the summer I'll often plan a bike ride to visit a relic I've not previously seen...
