Strong hailstones Neil, they've tipped your car on it's side.

Had to go out this morning and got soaked. Brilliant sunshine when I got back home.
Just about to go out again later and it was horizontal snow.

Hi Guys, Interesting read, never thought about BEV having a 12 volt system, thought it all run off the main powerpack.....as they say "Every day is a school day...". Anyway, Neil, as your leaf is well past its hey day, have you thoughout about adding a solar charger, my brother in-law runs one on his car as it it left standing for a long tie between uses.

And.. I wished I had a BEV the other day when I was standing for 5 minutes putting fuel in my car with the wind & rain blowing me sideways, whereas, if I had a BEV I could have been waiting in the warm & dry!!

Well you hit a landmark there Stu :)

Yours was the 80000 th post on the off topic chat lounge :)

I got a battery charger from Lidl, to give it a perk up, but haven’t done it yet. I reckon at about £50 for a new one to the same spec, I should just be putting a replacement in as a bit of preventative maintenance. No problems as yet with it.

Thanks for joining in

Been following the thread for a while, off and on, very interested in BEV's and expect the next car to be one.

It will be a little while before the "bargain basement" secondhand electric choice in the UK will expand from the current Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoe. I think the the VW E-Golf or the BMW I3 are still a bit pricy second hand, as are the Hyundai's and the KIA's which are still a bit new. Lots of new models coming out now, but a while before they drop into the second hand market below £10,000.

The Dacia Spring will be coming and a price tag of around £15,000 has been speculated on, and 2021 for its launch. You may need earplugs for the video :-D

Have to say so far our Bargain Basement second hand 24kWh Leaf, charging habitually from 20% to 80% with a giving a workable range of 50 miles (70 ish down to 20) has proved no barrier to enjoyable days out.

Today was a case in point. It was minus 2C this morning, and in one of my many paddles about the internet, I had read whether true or not that Li-ion batteries are but under greater stress while charging due to the viscosity of the electrolyte components at temperatures below freezing. So I decided not to top up my 39 miles or so in "the tank" but to charge up at a rapid charger on our way after doing a few "warm-up" miles. Three-quarters of an hour wandering in the sunshine up to Barter Books for a tea and coffee was no hardship at all, and the car was fully charged when we got back. Onwards to the coast coffee/cake/mooch/beach/chat with complete strangers/back to Marks and Sparks and home :-D :-D Great day :!:

Yes your local motoring for pleasure meander can still be done in an electric car!

Sneaked into the National Trust's Gibside at Rowlands Gill and topped up at a new charger while munching sandwiches, before heading up Consett way to Knitsley Farm Shop Cafe, Morrisons and B&Q.

The basic choice right now of an Under £10,000 Used EV is

A Nissan Leaf
A Renault Zoe

or the Citroen C-Zero/Peugeot Ion/i-Miev

..and good news for Simon (Mandrake) asking prices of those on the market are strong. Currently autotrader has 7 Citroen C-zero's listed, 0 peugeot ions and 2 i-MIEV's.

Prices range from £5,495 up to £10,000 with the £5,495 being for a 2012 plate ie 8 years old car with 25,000 miles on the clock.

Here's the Citroen Contingent

You can see why I'm keen to sell mine while it's still worth something. Judging by mileage/condition etc I reckon I can get around £5500 for it, which is hillarious when I bought it for £4200 three years ago and it's added an extra 30k miles in the interim... :rofl2:

Prices of second hand EV's are inflated due to shortage of supply. Once supply catches up prices will fall again. (They were very low at the start of 2017 as there was low demand then)

Of course high second hand prices are good for me selling the Ion but bad for me buying a Leaf! Although second hand Leaf's are one of the few second hand EV's that are still relatively good value at the moment - probably due to them being so ubiquitous. Nearly all other EV's have inflated second hand prices at the moment.

The Leaf has today hit the significant milage of 33333 , nearly 5,000 miles in the four months since we took the EV plunge last November. Early days but so far...

5,000 mile barrier passed in the Leaf, first pic doesn't include driving home via a circuitous route!
