If its like the earlier models then it should all be under the carpet (just add relay etc)

Nope- won't work on these. There are no 'relays' to add, plus the electrical harnesses are all different depending on options, as is the need for the correct modules. There are over 30 electrical harnesses for the belt and seats alone.

Re: Does anyone run a C5 X7 diesel estate?
Ah, must have pressed the wrong button
I drove it back this afternoon and the suspension was not quite as soft as I remember it from my road test the other day but still very supple compared with most modern cars. Its difficult trying to assess a car when you don't know where a lot of the controls are, I did the first 20 miles only just being able to see over the bonnet - then I found the seat raising lever.
It appears from the thin instruction books that it has satnav although the display doesn't look up to much, presumably I need a new one but if its not updatable it won't be much use anyway.
I think I am going to like it, its very easy to drive but I need to put a few miles on it to thoroughly settle in and the two thin instruction books I have are mainly about the electronics.
Anyway I will keep you updated.

Glad you bought it Peter, and it came home without any issues apart from pilot error
Had a quick look at the pics and it does not have sat nav regardless of what the thin booklets tell you, the display is the letterbox type and not one that supports sat nav
Looks a very nice car and quite a steal at the price quoted, give it a couple of weeks and it will feel like home

Don't forget to check that the tyres are not over-inflated. Fatal on XM!!

Its got 17" wheels on it, that immediately made it look uncomfortable which was one reason that I was surprised that it rode so well, would probably be better on 16's or 15's but don't know if they would fit.

JohnD wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 09:54 I bought a new C5 estate in 2005 and kept it until 2014 when I changed to a used 2010 VTR+ Estate so it was on steel springs. I use it for towing and found the rear end sagged when going over speed humps......... I got some MAD springs fitted and they have transformed the car.
These appear to be the springs (for your estate) that John mentioned:

They also do them for the saloon.

Interesting, but unlike my XMs I'm not likely to be carrying engines and gearboxes in the back and the price of them is about what I usually pay for a car - this one excepted

16" were an option at the time, but only for the poverty spec:
I have the full 2008 brochure if you want an electronic copy so you can see what all the options were and actually what they meant

Re: Does anyone run a C5 X7 diesel estate?
Thanks for the offer but looking at the price of the wheels I think I will give it a miss. Big low profile tyres possibly do look nice but I would rather hold on to my spine a little longer.
