I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?

I don't have a picture (I was driving at the time) but I saw an old green London Transport bus, reg MXX 313.

That was, if the DVLA's record is accurate a

GUY OTHER 1953

Registration number: MXX313
Body type: S/D Bus/Coach
Colour: Cream And Green
Date of first registration: October 1953

It was a London Transport Class GS id GS13 whatever that means!

...there is more to the story if you like following random trails like me.....

In 2013, Arriva's new fleet of 5 Buses at High Wycombe were named after 5 prominent individuals.....bear with me the point of this will arrive soon. Probably the most famous of these is Benjamin Disraeli, but one of the others was Peter Cartwright a local bus enthusiast who owns 3 Vintage Buses.

Bus enthusiast, Peter Cartwright, who was born and bred in High Wycombe, has dedicated his life to town in his role as county councillor, district councillor and mayor. An anonymous nomination letter to Arriva credited Mr Cartwright with working round the clock to save bus services from being cut in High Wycombe.

He said: “I feel very honoured. I have had a huge interest in buses since I was 11 and I even own three vintage buses myself. It was very unexpected but it is nice to know that residents appreciate my work in the community.”

Spotted a light yellow Jensen Interceptor on the road the later in the driveway at another location....no camera on either occasion so we'll have to refer to "Simon Cars" for a bit of visuals and description...

Spotted a white Mini Moke in Woburn today during my bike ride... It was moving and so was I so no option of a photo

Not seen a Moke in the wild for ages now...

Two D-type Jaguars, passed a black one heading south on the A1M and half an hour later a white one in the opposite carriageway.

Also passed an Austin 1100 GT - didn't know there was such a beast.

And some 60's Chevrolet thing. Passed it too quickly to get a model but it was blue

At some point on my journey up to the National this morning (I think I was still on the M5) coming south (west?) was a bright red Mirafiori! Not a classic in my book but almost re-defines "survivor".

Even more unlikely (but by no means as rare), leaving the National, peering through the drizzle on that narrow, bendy road back up to the main road I espied - a Routemaster, followed by something rather more modern - possibly an MPW(?)

A few rural routes retained GS's for years afterwards; as a youngster, I remember seeing them around Rickmansworth/Chilterns, and Leith Hill/Dorking.

Spotted an L reg (suffix - 1972/73) BMW in bright orange yesterday... No idea what it was but it might have been a 2002...

All I know was it stank to high heaven. Running rich by the smell of it...

A few rural routes retained GS's for years afterwards; as a youngster, I remember seeing them around Rickmansworth/Chilterns, and Leith Hill/Dorking.

I'm sure they only operated around Ricky & Dorking/Guildford.

They have a very high survival rate, probably due to combination of gentle use, charming/quirky appearance &, almost, (by bus standards) diminutive size, including one (repainted cream) run by a Belgian wedding limo. firm.

1970s White Mercedes 350SL cab in Newcastle. Couldn't get a shot of it - I was following in heavy traffic and a bit lost

Saw an absolute gem in Harrogate today. An in the wild spot too, and caught on camera too.....

Didn't immediately identify it from the front , absolutely gorgeous side profile.

Looked a bit SM ish, but pre dates the SM by 8 years or so.

Yesterday I went to Seaton Delaval (been going to go for years) - No pictures
Seaton Sluice - no pictures
Whitley Bay - no pictures
Newcastle Quayside - no pictures and it took an hour of wandering though Newcastle to get there.
The Sage, Gateshead - no pictures and it took three quarters of an hour from the quayside 100 yards as the brick flies
Had three cameras with me too
I used to know that area like the back of my hand but haven't been there in about fifteen - twenty years. It's a maze.
Have to go back tomorrow too.

"All around the world and part of Gateshead" as my grandpa used to say.

One other bit of random interestingness we came across was at Sherburn in Elmet, which regularly appears in used caravan adverts on the usual selling sites. Right next to the caravan place are a couple of car scrapyards.
One is quite big with your usual collection of cars in, The other had probably over 20 scrap Rolls Royce, together with other prestige marques in a scrapyard state. No pics, don't think the locals would have liked it!

So get a Roller cheap at auction and maintain it with scrapyard parts!

Just a little bit further on at Church Fenton, there was and interesting take on the 'careful drivers' notices.

The notices read very specifically "Renault Drivers please drive carefully"

Now why they didn't choose Audi drivers for this particular honour I don't know.

There is of course a mundane and logical explanation but nice notices.
