Re: Lexia Cable issues

Post by Mandrake »

Just ordered a couple of these cheap OBD II extension cables:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360662847949" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'll make one into a breakout cable so I can monitor all the data lines with a scope when the 30 pin adaptor is in use and I'm trying to query one of the non responding ECU's. The idea is to find out which data lines the Lexia 3 is querying for each non responding ECU and see if it matches up with the pinouts of the the 30 pin rectangular connector documented further up this thread. (And the wiring diagrams for the car) If it turns out some of the K-Lines are transposed I can make an adaptor cable that "corrects" the wiring for S1 Xantia's when used with a Lexia 3. Will let you guys know if I make any progress! :)

If you're reading this Jim, I don't suppose you could look at the S1 V6 wiring diagrams and confirm which pins on the 30 pin diagnostic socket the K-lines for the Air bag, rear view mirror and deadlocks go to ? That would be very helpful :)

Having the same problem, my Lexia will not read from my S1 V6 Activa.:(

Reads from C5.Mk1, Mk.2, x7...Pug 306/406/206 etc

I have removed the clip, no change.

I have ZERO confidence in changing wires over etc in connectors...so what path to go down ?

A few people have asked about the wiring of these cables recently, dropbox killing external links ruined my picture attachment above a few years ago so here it is again:

Simon, I'm gonna find you and I'm gonna kiss you!

After days of struggle I finally got it working thanks to your pinout diagrams!

The first time I saw this I didn't realise there was a page 2 on it, and it beeing from 2014 I didn't wanna write anything in here but now that you've updated it i'm gonna do it so maybe this can help somebody.

I had the 30pin to OBD 2 adapter ordered from E-bay years ago and it never worked. Looking at your schemes I realised that there were no pins where they were supposed to be for eg. A2 (ignition +12V) C1 and C2 (CAN ECU lines) were missing on the adapter. So I disassemled mine and started reassembling it back up as it should be. Finished, tested and it didn't work. Then i realised, after i saw your last post that I mirrored the OBD2 connector, actually I looked up some pinout diagrams online and thought they were meant to be for the on car side of the connector but they were not... Long story short, I didn't fry anything (luckily) and I have the adapter working now after looking at your updated pictures!

Re: Lexia Cable issues

Happy to help - I see you also can't communicate with the Airbag, Rear-view mirror and deadlocks - same as my Xantia V6. While my cable works for many of the ECU's I have never been able to get those three to work and I don't believe the cable is wired quite right for them but haven't looked into it too much further as I haven't needed to test those ECU's - for me the main ones of interest are always the engine and gearbox.

Interesting that it's trying to communicate with an automatic gearbox - aren't all Xantia Activa V6's manual gearboxes ???

Is that with the correct VIN number / RPO number entered ? If so the Lexia software should know your car doesn't have an auto box.

BTW Xantia's (both S1 and S2) don't use CAN bus - they use a mix of K-Line and proprietary protocols for the different ECU's, and use non-standard pinouts for most of the pins apart from the power and ground! (EG don't try to connect a regular OBD-II adaptor to a S2 Xantia even though it has the standard connector, it won't work)

I believe the C5 was the first Citroen (car at least) to use a compliant OBD-II diagnostic port.

Hello!

I have recently purchased a Lexia to help diagnose my XM, and I also bought a 30-pin to Obd2 adapter. Long story short, it didn't work so I re-wired it like the previous post in this thread suggested. And it worked! Partly. Only got comms with the ABS and anti-theft module, nothing with the ignition (which was the main point of interest). As I wired it directly as you guys, it should work on an XM right? Could the missing A2 pin on my 30-pin side of the adapter be the cause of this?

The car in question is a 1999 model XM 2.0i 16v

Thanks in advance for any tips/help :)

It is because of the poor wiring.
Both the China VCI and the 30-pin connector can be the culprit. Often it is the 30-pin plug.
There are already a few posts on this in the forum.
It often helps to try out the original plug with the China VCI. The original plug can be bought second-hand at a reasonable price.

It most certainly could be the cause as the A2 pin carries +12 Volts from the ignition. If you want to make it work you'd need to disassemble it like I did and build it up from there or cut the wires and rewire them. Which ever method you prefer but the first one is easier in my opinion.
Image

Note that I'm missing F3 (K-line Air Bag) and I2 (K-line Anti-theft alarm) Those wires just didn't exist in my connector. And that A3 goes to 3 pins on the OBD2 Side (8, 4 and 3) I don't why, it's only one wire, not 3, must be somewhere internally spliced to reach those 3 pins on the OBD2 side. This connector works for me and can read the systems seen above in Lexia. Tried on my Xantia and my Dad's XM S2.

You are correct, this was just for testing purposes and the VIN was typed as all 1s.
