Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Having driven two different 16v's K plate plus an L plate the experience I was left with was somewhat disturbing..... in the fact that my old c reg Golf GTi was significantly faster than both....... I think that you would be best staying with the Volcane, however the rear suspension on the 16v is fun whe pushing through the bends......

If you have found the fusebox - it is most likely a 20amp which should be yellow. If there is no diagram on the fuse board then take the yellow fuses out one by one and replace them. Easiest thing is to use a multimeter but you can usually see a blown fuse by a broken metal strip in the 'window' or some types have an exposed thin edge. If it is...

Since the auto hasn't cost you anything yet and the repairs necessary to get it MOT'd are marginal (you've got a complet set of tyres on the '91 from the photos) I don't think you have anything to worry about. At only 113K, if teh autobox performs as it should, its just a case of keeping up the maintenance.
I'd keep the '91 manual for a rainy day...

A month back I paid £80 off ebay for a very early 1991 Series 1 XM with over 153K miles, model unknown (but carburettor). Bodywork totally immaculate but with lower steering column linkage u/s. Car is in local garage at moment. Their verdict was £230 for the linkage but better to do an MoT to find out if anything else has gone before...

I done't know any details of the software on your model car, but it sounds like the Engine Management has gone into limp home mode and this disables the A/C to reduce unnecessary load on the engine. If there is a limp home mode, it could be triggered by the failure of just about any sensor, or a bad connection in the wiring. Good luck.

Sounds very much like you have a tyre that is seperating from the cords. If this is not the first time, I's suggest you take a close look at the suspension, possibly the lower control arm bushes in case the wheel is tending to move to & fro and running off track.
It can also be caused by rotating radial tyres diagonally which in fact reverses...

Assuming that the pulleys are free from oil then there is a product called Sprayzol that can help.
You might like to try a bit of shoe polish on the belt. An old remedy, it often works.

Could it be a cold exhuast sheild over one of the box sections? I know they sound tinny and can some times vibrate as they're too close to the actual exhaust. I sorted my centre one out by a gentle pushing back in to the under body.

I wouldn't worry about this. If you cut the pipes off the scrap it will be ok but try and unscrew them as you will then have a practice at dismantling and know if the union threads are ok. I am going blindly into this as I do not have a Xantia ( I am assuming that is what you have got) but you could get a couple of brake hose clamps for clamping...

So the cable operated catch released from inside the car is working and its only the safety catch we are talking about?
If you can find a reasonably stiff wire I would have thought you could have fished around for the catch itself with the bonnet adjar and simply pull it to disengage it. It is not heavily loaded.

Any turbo engine is a prime candidate for chipping and I'm sure with a quick search on the net you will find plenty of companies willing to do the job, either by replacing the chip or reprogamming it. You might want to fit an induction kit too.

Was the engine hot when you started idling? Was the bonnet up or bonnet down? What car? What engine? What did the temperature gauge say whilst this was happening?
If the engine was cold, it will take far more than 5 minutes of idling to get the fans to come on. With the bonnet up, I know my fan will only come on when the weather is hot, it seems...

You should be able to fit the 5 speeder from an AX 1.1 without modification, the clutch, cable etc are the same, you may have to use the gear link rods from the 1.1. Should all be straightforward stuff.

I have certainly thought about it as I am sure others have. Two litres of oil a week is a tremendous amount. When you consider the amount of 'green manure' crops and the fact that there would be less rotation involved it looks viable.

XANTIA BOOT LIGHT

I think it has a tilt switch inside the door...
I found that mine didn't always come on, but shaking the door a little will usually get it to come on when it hasn't.

Is my car unusual or do other Xantia's have a problem with their boot lights? When opened I can get lucky & sometimes the boot light will come on, but many a time it will not! When it works I am quite pleased to see it working.So please tell me why it's so intermittant.There must be a switch, but where can I find it?

This engine sets up with three 8 mm bolts about 80mm long, one locking the crank at the flywheel, one locking the camshaft sprocket and the third locks the pump. Everything is now aligned. The pump pulley has a hole in it for this and the pulley fits with a Woodruff key so the timing isn't the least bit tricky.

My boss has kindley decided to change my Fiat PuntoVan for a Xsara Enterprise. In my Punto i have a pioneer deh 7400mp, how do i transfer this to my xsara and enable the remote controls?

XANTIA WARNING LIGHT

This is the oil level light - not to be confused with the oil pressure lamp.
Check your oil level half an hour after the engine has last run and on a LEVEL surface.
On my ZX the lamp can flash if the car is parked inclined to the drivers side.
If the oil pressure light (red) lights up - something expensive has occoured! Best to keep the level...

It's the brake pad wear warning light. Get the front pads checked - they will probably need changing since the light comes on when you brake. If it was just coming on randomly, it would probably just be a broken wire.

I have just replaced the head gasket on my 1 litre debut ('94) and noticed there vas very little wear on the cylinder bores etc. The gasket blew due to a non operative radiator fan switch which caused an overheat during the Mot emissions test.
How many miles has your ax done? My ax seems tight and responsive after all the miles! (136,000 miles)

Extract the PCB and check for breaks in the circuit tracks, especially where the switch pins sit - they have a habit of breaking off. A small soldering iron should be able to fix the problem. (you have checked the batteries of course?)

I suspect that it's a case of paying lots of money to a main dealer, but is there any alternative way of reactivating a dead plip ?
The batteries are new, the light comes on, but no locking/unlocking. The spare plip works fine.
Any clues, please?

Is there a dedicated fuse in the fuse box? Try taking a live feed to the in-line fuse. A multimeter is the ideal piece of equipment.

Hi all. Im after a Citroen ZX Volcane Style rear bumper (for a ZX SX - same bumper for volcane) as some pr*ck broke mine while it was parked at the side of the road. Rounded nut heads- an absolute horror!!!
Can you get a mole wrench clamped tightly on to the bolt-heads?
If so, some heat or penetrating fluid first may help: dont use WD40, its a lubricant, not an easing fluid. Plus-Gas works well.
The other alternative, if you have accsess to a Mig, is to weld a nut onto the rounded head, and this normally works...

Hi everyone, I'm stuck trying to replace the alternator belt which broke. All the allen bolts appear to be rounded off so I can't loosen the adjuster to fit a new one. I've tried removing the power steering pump and alternator to get access to the tensioner assembly, but the same story there. I'm out of ideas. Anyone got a solution?

Okay, managed to get the circuit board out by levering at the rubber mountings enough to give me some space. Pulled the PCB out and what a mess. Black everywhere where the arcing has occurred and which ultimately created the dry joint at the main power supply end. C5 front strut lubing

I would have thought your C5 was relatively new and wouldn't benefit from lubing its front struts. Struts only seem to benefit from lubing when they're worn / full of muck.
