I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

The mark 1 C5 is not a looker from the front IMO...

But is smart from the back

It needs a clean but the interior is in great nick really;

Typical modern engine bay, covered with plastic crap everywhere, but in good nick and I know when the cambelt was last done;

Well all looking good on this being the cause of the odd tail light behaviour (makes perfect sense) but unfortunately not the cause of the battery randomly dying. So, no more messing about - a replacement Bosch Silver has gone in.

First time I've replaced a battery on a C5 and I must say... Gosh! What a brilliant bit of design! Easiest battery...

XM owners' handbook (1996) also says that the gauge should be read (a) when cold, and (b) after leaving the engine switched off for at least 10 minutes. Guess that the latter is to allow oil level to return to 'stopped', rather than the oil to cool down, which takes an age.

Same colour as mine. I have found that the colour does not show up the dirt so much. IE. it gets dirty, but does not seem to get any worse. I have not washed my car in 18 months. This is my latest C5, the type i have been looking for ages.

Stickyfinger gave his input on this car as well as a nice gentle ride in the Activa. :shock:

First off take a look at the belt. I've seen them where part is more flexible than the rest causing issues.

Most likely though I would reckon is dried up old grease. With the belt off give the turntable a spin by hand, it should take a good while to coast to a halt and do so very smoothly, and obvious braking effect shows something is amiss...

The dreaded MOT loomed on the Xantia Exclusive due 5th December....

So after adressing a bottom ball joint on the nearside I thought ok.. lets go for it!

So went in today, at 228,000 miles and sat patiently waiting while watching the MOT man go around...

The result, a PASS.... Yaay... Only one dust cap on a drop link, a rear brake pipe slightly...

Well, still missing my 1.9 TGD BX and learning to live with the Xantia :)

It had done less than 7500 miles when I picked it up and is now at 8500. The history with it didn't mean much, it was probably a 'well it hasn't been anywhere so it'll be ok affair'

I had to change the rear spheres as those were flat on collection, the LHM was brown and...

Well, I posted on facebook about the clutch clip breaking on my old bus, almost 4yrs and 44k miles in.

I'd done one one a mk2 before and the bolt was in the easy way ont that one, mine had the bolt in where the head was next to the brake pedal. I'd read in previous posts about people slackening off the nut enough to cut the bolt head off.

Hi folks,

Castrol's commercial for their GTX engine oil was absolutely correct- some oils just don't measure up!

Thought I'd briefly share my experience of engine oils used in my 1997 1.8i 16V Xantia since I bought my car over 16 years ago.

Whilst it was based in the UK from 2000 to 2007, I exclusively used the semi-synthetic Total Quartz 7000...

Some may already know that I own a 1998 Citroën Xantia Activa V6. But that was not my first car. It was my third car.

My very first car was (and is) a 1974 Citroën DS 23 IE. (My second was a 1985 Citroën CX TRS 22, that I have since sold as it was in too bad shape to start work on it.) I still own it and it holds a special place in my heart....

I've had it now for about a month now and in comparison to the V6 its not as quick but i much prefer the manual box. its a good solid engine and box and i've enjoyed it muchly.

We were looking for a car primarily for my wife to use. We both like automatics, so we were just looking for a nice car with an automatic.

You are not trying with the rear pads though - I put new pads in my HDi at 110k; no reason to believe they were not the originals! Mind you I took a tyre off at 100k that I am pretty sure was original too....

The spare michelin under mine is the original. Barely used, dated 1994! Obviously needs skipping now :shock:

If you refer to sharp and firm then those cars are not that by a long way.

If you refer to soft and comfy over B-roads and above, it should be exactly that. My Mk1 and Mk1 Face were exactly that, super smooth and floaty.

When i needed a new daily driver two years back my uncle recommended a C8 that had stood at a Citroen dealer for some time. I bought it all fixed and ok for another two years on the road before the next EU inspection (every two years here in Norway).
On my way home the turbo blew ... so i turned around, drove back to the dealer and left it there...

Sealing the radio antenna helped. the last of the leak i think is middle bolt on the rear lights. So 4 leak spots in total. the hinges being the worst alongside the antenna :p

now i need to find some schematics so i can get the car to work. Made it start once today but nothing worked except the engine . .

Well, I've gone and bought my first new car EVER....... a DS3 DSport Plus Blue HDi 120

SWMBO has been struggling with opening the doors on the Peugeot so that had to go.......I am lucky enough to have a fantastic dealer not to far from me and I have to say, dealing with a family firm, who win customer service awards every year is really great!...

If I'm honest, I much prefer the DS3, I find the DS4 quite bland. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough car, and for a mid spec it's well appointed, I mean it's a DStyle with Nav, has massage seats....... you'll know as much as me....

I don't get anywhere near the MPG I did with the DS3, I average around 50/55MPG but it is the 1.6 e-HDi....

As you may have seen in the for sale threads I've bought Northern Mike's C5 to replace my Synergie and so far I'm very happy with it. I do quite a lot of motorway miles and the C5 should suit this perfectly.

There are a few things to sort out, and I was planning to just leave it until MOT time and then decide whether or not to keep it, but...

(I know of one (Turbo 2 and Black) ) dusted and abandoned CX in a garage here in town. Its a public garage and someone climbed on top of the car, stood on the roof and pee'd all over it .. It's very evident from the footprints and pee stains :( I might have a picture of the travesty somewhere)
