Flat Battery
After years of service, the Laguna decided to break down earlier this week. Apparently there has been a strong smell of petrol for tow days preceding the breakdown accroding to my brother but I can't confirm that. Anyways, the battery was flat so I jump started it. It started immediately as it wud do normally but since the jump start, the car seems to be revving real low, and when changing gears it feels like the cars about to cut out and it sort of clunks when changing up (the sort of clunk and hesitation you get when you push start the car in 2nd gear....Is there a problem or am I imagining it?

If I remember on modern cars if you disconect the battery (or let it go flat) then ECU goes in to a default setting and relearns the cars preformance while driving. This generally takes about 10 to 20 mins but the revs have to be kept at a constant 3k (or there abouts). With out this re-setting the car will run sluggish and feel as though running rough. My Xsara had a problem and the electrics were taken off line and this is exactley how it was cured by a Renault dealer.

Thanx guys I'll bear all that in mind. Yea I remember hearing the same about the ECU having to learn the settings after the battery is changed / removed / run flat. On the Timing belt side, well, the belt was replaced about 15,000 miles ago, and the car isnt really running sluggish or anything for me to suspect the belt, but i will get it looked at to be on the safe side.
