Starter Motor Removal

I am trying to remove the starter motor from my 1988 CX 25 GTi. I have got the two long bolts out and removed the metal shroud. The starter is just clear of the bell housing but will not come any further despite much wriggling. Any advice?

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
