Hello, I bought myself a car. Citroen c5 x7 156thp 2011. VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. The seller of the car lives +300km away and his car broke down in my town. The local repair shop examined the car and stated that the 2nd cylinder injector is broken, it is leaking through. The owner managed to get another ride home and wanted to get rid of this car quickly. They put it up for sale for €500, I bought it right away!
New Bosch injectors seemed to cost €65/each so I bought all 4 pcs. The injectors were annoying to change, there was really little space. I didn't want to remove the intake manifold completely so I just dropped it between the firewall and the engine. The idea was to remove the fuel rail from the injectors and then the injectors last. But the injectors were really stuck to the fuel rail, I had to remove them all as one package. Due to the limited space I was afraid I would damage the injector tips. Luckily in my case the old injectors will never be used again so it doesn't matter if there is a little damage. I cleaned the nozzle holes carefully and put a little silicone spray on the nozzle tip seals and the o-rings themselves. I could only see the injectors in the mirror and had to sit on my knees on top of the engine during the entire repair. After changing the injectors, I also changed the sparkplugs, engine oil and filter because they smelled strongly of gasoline. I tried to start the car for the first time during my ownership. The car started fine and ran well. The car smoked heavily for a while, which was caused by the exhaust system and engine being wetted by the leaking injector.
I also noticed that there was a slight exhaust pipe leak sound coming from the turbo and the turbo was very sooty on the outside. I opened the exhaust manifold heat shields and noticed that the connection between the turbo and the exhaust pipe was loose. One of the mounting nuts had fallen between the heat shield, the other was fingertight and the third was moderately tight. I retightened everything and it started to hold. When I examined the turbo, I noticed that it looked pretty new. According to the service book, it was replaced for the first time on 02.10.2019. 189009km and for the second time on 23.08.2023. 226935km (the intake pipe was replaced at the same time). I don't know why it was replaced twice, whether the first one was a cheap part or a used one, I don't know... The turbo's intake wings were slightly bent, and there was a little oil in the intake pipe. Did the intake pipe break let extra stuff into the pipe and damage the intake wings, or did the breather freeze and the loose ice go through the turbo? (Finland has cold winters). I was thinking of replacing the breather with a new one as a spare. Unfortunately, you can't get it separately, you have to buy the whole valve cover. My valve cover leaks a little oil, so it has to be removed anyway. The new part costs less than 100€, so it's not expensive.
When I checked the fault codes, the parking assist had a fault code. ABC1 (distance sensor, front left inside, short circuit to positive). ABC2 distance sensor, front right outside, short circuit to positive) and 9BCA (distance sensor, front left outside, probabilistic logic). So I think I have two broken sensors. I swapped the middle sensors and the error code changed from ABC1 -> ABC3 (front right inner) so I think my conclusion is correct. I'll order new ones and replace them.
There were a lot of fault codes in the Engine Control due to a broken injector. All the others went away and stayed away except for two fault codes, both were the same, U1218 CAN communication with component (central electronics) illogical value. This is what I need to start investigating next, apparently there could be some connector fault, wiring fault or oxidation in the direction of the engine fuse box? Does anyone know better where I should start looking for the problem?

That sounds like you are well on the way to having a very nice car!! The fault code you refer to often is the result of dampness/corrosion in the engine bay fuse box and I suggest a thorough going over and clean up of all the connectors as well as the fuses themselves.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I hope so too! Today I had time to investigate the car a bit. So, there are two U1218 fault codes on the engine controlunit side. I also read the fault codes for the central electronics and there were codes 5FF (central electronics control unit, internal fault) and 066 (communication with component [battery management control unit], fault detected). There was also a fault code for the license plate lights 4A7, which is caused by the LED bulbs there. I removed this engine compartment fuse/relay box. Is this the BMI unit? All of its connections looked good, I also take off all the fuses, there was a little green corrosion in the fuse holders. I sprayed some electronics spray and let it dry before reinstalling the fuses. Under this unit, between two wires, there was a 3A fuse. The fuse was blown. The other end of the wire went to the battery terminal so I assume this is related to the battery management system, which is where the fault code 066 came from. I replaced the new fuse and put everything back together. I cleared all the fault codes and started the car. All of these fault codes disappeared! This was an easy fault to fix!
There was a strange bundle of wires in the wiring harness with the ends cut off. I couldn't figure out what numbers were printed on the wires. What are they?
The right side mirror does not turn towards the body when using the central locking. The left one works normally. I also tried the button above the window lift switch but it just doesn't work. I opened the mirror covers and found the wires and connector for the tilt motor. I tried applying 12v voltage to it, but it wouldn't turn. I need to order a new motor for it!
The chassis control unit had error code U2005 (vehicle speed signal, Wake up function failed). I'll have to try to investigate this next time. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Now that summer is approaching, I had the air conditioning serviced on the car. The refrigerant was R134a and 525g of it was used. There was still 475g of old refrigerant in the system, so it would have worked perfectly fine without the service.

Good work!! Unfortunately I do not understand the language on your diagnostic screen but I am sure you do, and have got the whole thing well in hand. Nothing to offer on the chopped wires I'm afraid, probably need another owner to clarify that.

These wires are always there. They seen to be some spares which they put in for whatever reason. My C6 has them too and I’m 100% sure they are factory original.

Spare parts arrive and Saturday was time to make repairs. First I replaced the valve cover/breather, new one cost 65€ and included gasket. Old one out and new one in. At the rear of the engine, on the gearbox side, there were two "angles" where the sealing surface rises up at a sharp angle. I put a small bead of sealing silicone on them to prevent any leakage. I marked them in the picture with red arrows. Everything inside the valvetrain looked normal. There was no visible or noticeable wear on the cam, so everything was fine. The new valve cover came with a red plug, it has a plugged breather hole, apparently a hose should be connected to this that goes to the intake manifold. The existing valve cover did not have any kind of plug, there was just a hole. Apparently this variation is not supposed to have a hose connected? The huge red plug that came with the new cover does not fit in place. Do I dare plug this hose outlet or do I leave it open like it has been until now?
The tailgate was missing a trimpanel. I ordered a used panel from Ovoko, a car dismantling website. The panel cost 10€ + 27€ for shipping. Some of the fasteners were broken and missing. Luckily, I was prepared for this and ordered new ones. I took pictures of the back of the panel and the tailgate itself, in case it would help someone to see where the fasteners are located and make dismantling easier. Unfortunately, I noticed that the new panel has an electric opening button. I don't have this feature, so I have to put a cover instead. There was no picture in the sales photos where I could see exactly whether there was a button or not. In any case, I haven't found a cover, so I'll probably have to have a 3D printed cover. A previous owner has installed a reversing camera in the car, the camera wires appeared to be loose inside the tailgate. I didn't bother to remove the camera yet. The other wiring has apparently been removed.
I replaced two broken parking sensors in the front, the fault codes disappeared. The third fault code remained, I moved it to a more accessible location and made sure that the sensor was broken. I have to order another new one!

The red plug in the engine cover apparently affects engine emissions, and should be left in place to meet USA regulations and removed for EU. It is difficult to find any documentation on that.

Thank you very much for this information! I'll leave the hole open, as it has been until now!xantia_v6 wrote: 24 May 2026, 12:03 The red plug in the engine cover apparently affects engine emissions, and should be left in place to meet USA regulations and removed for EU. Re: Citroen C5 x7 156thp, injector, parking assist and BSI.
Saturday again and time for my own hobbies. The mirror folding motor finally arrived from China, I ordered it from aliexpress for 10€ including shipping. Some mechanic has been inside the mirror before me, the wires of the sensor under the mirror have been soldered by someone at some point. It looks creepy.. I cut off the pieces on both sides of the wire connection and soldered a new piece in between. I found some good videos on youtube on how to disassemble the mirror. The motor is located in the fold of the mirror, so the mirror frame must be completely disassembled.
The plastic washer on the spring shown in the picture needs to be pushed in a little deeper and turned, if you compare the two pictures you will notice that it has turned slightly. This turning was enough. I used a 12mm thick and 110mm long bolt for this forging. The bolt head was 23mm wide and the nut head was 26mm wide. I think this was the perfect tool for this purpose! Once the engine was exposed, the circuit board was removed by gently wiggling it. Then the circuit board was inserted into the new engine and put back together! I cleaned all the gears and places carefully and applied new Vaseline. I also accidentally broke one of the housing clips. I glued it to the housing, it will probably last the rest of the car's life. All other parts back together in reverse order and tested. And it works! This is a little faster than the other side mirror with the original motor. It doesn't bother me. I'll replace it when it breaks! Then it was the turn of the parking sensor problem. The third new front parking sensor came and I replaced it. The fault codes disappeared! However, when I engage the reverse gear, the service light comes on and the fault message from the parking assist system comes up again. Four rear parking sensor fault codes... FBC7 (rear left inside), FBC9 (rear right inside), FBC6 (rear left outside) and FBC8 (rear right outside).
Are all the sensors broken or is someone short-circuiting the system? I need to investigate! New Metzger brand sensors cost 13€ each, so i hopefuly won't go bankrupt even if i replace them all. It's not the best brand, but there have been no problems with that brand in the past. The cheapest Esen SKV ones cost only 6€, But I don't dare to get involved with them.

Re: Citroen C5 x7 156thp, injector, parking assist and BSI.
I've driven the car for 114km now. The car works really well otherwise but sometimes I feel a little jerk. When driving at a steady speed in 4th gear I sometimes feel a little jerk. I don't really know what causes it, maybe the gearbox is thinking about whether to change gears or it's due to something else.. Maybe bad and worn gearbox oil. I also sometimes feel jerking with moderate acceleration. Sometimes when I leave work it feels like the car won't change gears. In the lowest gear the engine screams at about 3000rpm and the gear won't change. This only happens randomly. I don't notice any stutters or symptoms in the engine's running sound. But the jerking could also be due to things on the engine side. I need to investigate the matter.
I'm going to change the automatic gearbox oil anyway! I read several topics on this forum regarding the subject. Apparently you have to be careful with the oil, is this Euro 4 or Euro 5? Euro 4 is suitable for JWS3309 classification oil and Euro 5 is suitable for AW-1 classification oil, am I right? I can easily get my hands on Total Fluidmatic LV MV oil (AW-1) for about 12€/L, I think this would be the right choice? I also noticed that Mannol Dexron VI (AW-1) oil can be obtained even cheaper if you buy a big can 20L/125€ = 6.25€/L. Does anyone on this forum have experience with this oil? I thought I would change the oil properly by flushing it, as only 3 liters of it comes out at a time, volume about 7Litres. I would think to prepare at least 10 liters for this operation.
