RT6 peugeot 508 jbl

Unread post by Knsky57 »

Hello,

I would like to ask for your advice regarding an issue with the audio system in my 2012 Peugeot 508. The car is equipped with the RT6 head unit and a factory JBL sound system with amplifier.

Everything worked fine after I purchased the car, but about a month later, the sound suddenly disappeared from all sources — radio, Bluetooth, CD, and AUX. The parking sensors were the only thing still producing sound, and even then, audio playback from music sources would occasionally come back for a short while, about once a month.

Thinking the head unit was faulty, I replaced it with another RT6 unit with a newer firmware. However, with this new unit, there is no sound at all, not even from the parking sensors.

After researching online, I found that in vehicles with a JBL system, the amplifier may not be turning on because the head unit doesn’t send the +12V signal to the REM (remote) wire — possibly due to missing CAN configuration or differences in vehicle trim.

I haven’t tried connecting +12V manually to the REM wire yet, but before doing so, I wanted to ask:
Has anyone encountered a similar situation? And does manually powering the amplifier resolve the issue?

I’d greatly appreciate any advice or shared experience.
I’m happy to provide more information if needed.

Since the sound from all sources has gone it is logical to look for the common point in the system which would indeed appear to be the amplifier. That being the case I would identify the +12V terminal on the amplifier and check it with a multimeter when you have turned the RT6 on. If there is no voltage there then connect a 5A fused supply to the terminal and see if it works. You can do that by making up a lead with an inline fuse holder and clips on each end, then go from the battery +ve to the terminal of the amp and see if it comes to life. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thanks a lot! I’m going to try it now.
I’ll write to you about the results.
