Fuel Heater Control Open Circuit

Unread post by johnink »

Hi everyone,
I’m dealing with a persistent fault on my 2016 Citroën DS4 2.0 BlueHDi and would really appreciate some insight.

Please watch the YouTube video with the noise that seems to come from fuel rail pressure / injectors

Faults shown by diagnostic (Autel):

P2687: Fuel heater control – open circuit

P164A: Crankcase fumes heater – short circuit to ground

P1647: Crankcase fumes heater control – open circuit

P0215: Main relay control – relay stuck

Work already done / tests performed:

Replaced the fuel heater relay

Replaced the fuel rail sensor

Replaced fuel filter housing with a new one (fault P2687 remains)

Replaced the engine fuse box (BSM) with same model (BSM-Z06-01 980296480) – no change

Tested Delphi injectors (PN: 28388960) with a Fluke multimeter – all show approx. 0.3 ohms, consistent and beeping (continuity OK)

Resistance test done with ignition OFF and engine cold, 12V disconnected

Tested known good injector from a DS3 – same readings (0.3 ohms)

Checked heater connector – around 15V with ignition ON, then drops

Graphs from the diagnostic tool show unstable rail pressure at idle but become stable around 2000 RPM

Also experiencing crankcase heater faults, though component seems integrated into the valve cover – considering replacing full valve cover with PCV system

Assuming the noise in the video, chuffing, is the result of the problem it sounds like it is related to a piston pump with a leak to me. The obvious choice being the fuel pump and maybe a vacuum leak? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
