Peugeot 407 without any comunication with ABS

Unread post by gsipower »

Hello from Norway! Have a 2007 Peugeot 407 1.6HDI where I am struggling to make contact with the abs module. New sensors, tried fitted new/used ABS module/Pump, new used BSM fuse box with no luck. Abs lamp comes on during start-up, goes away when driving and returns after 10-20 metres. Checked fuses, connectors and wires. The only fault codes that are stored are EGR related. Could this prevent contact with the ABS module?

Thank you very much for your input.

What diagnostic machine are you using? If it's not a Diagbox then it might be unable to read some Peugeot specific error codes.

iCarsoft CR MAX . Works just fine on 208, 308, 3008 and 5008. Is 407 something else?

Egr fault: P2143, P1162, and P0490 with P1351 in the pre heating circuit. Tryed 3 egr valves without any change. meassure only 0.1% or 90% in live data.
The plug have 5v, 14v, ground and signal from ECU..

So no good replacing parts without knowing the fault.

All of these codes point to an electrical problem, typically open circuit for the first 2. If the EGR isn't getting a control signal or isn't providing feedback, then it is very likely to be to do with the electrical circuit from the engine ECU to the EGR valve.

I would start by examining the electrical connections themselves, specifically checking the pins and the connector for good contact, not corrosion or the pins not loose. Check for wiring breaks too. I'll provide you with the wiring diagram to help locate the connectors and wiring at the end of this post.
Fault Code: P2143
Description of Fault:
  • Exhaust gas recycling electric valve control: Open circuit. Open circuit for 200 ms.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Ignition on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of flowmeter plausibility faults
  • The ECU stops the regulation of the EGR valve
  • The ECU stops the regulation of the EGR butterfly
  • The ECU cuts the regulation of the by-pass meter
  • Deactivation of the initialisations of the EGR valve
Symptoms:
  • Lack of power
  • Engine hesitating, cutting out
Suspect Areas:
  • Exhaust gas recycling valve
  • Electrical harness
  • Connector

Fault Code: P1162
Description of Fault:
  • Position indicator signal of the EGR valve: Valve jammed during driving. Circuit open for 1 second.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Ignition switched on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Cutting of all the principal air mixer EGR butterfly actuators; EGR valve; Bypass valve (In all operating modes)
  • Irreversible cutting of the cruise control
  • Deactivation of the cruise control
  • Reduction in the time between 2 successive regenerations in the event of an EGR fault
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: Warning lamp MIL
Symptoms:
  • Jerking/stalling
  • Exhaust smoke
  • Lack of power
  • Starting problem
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness
  • Connections
  • EGR valve
  • Particle filter

Fault Code: P0490
Description of Fault:
  • Position indicator signal of the EGR valve: Positive loop gap. Positive difference of 30% % between the exhaust gas recirculation valve position reference value and the position measured (For 10 seconds).
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Inhibiting of the diagnostics and air flow sensor plausibility
  • Change to "easy move" torque invalid (Deactivation of automatic mode for the electronic parking brake)
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness
  • Connector
  • Exhaust gas recycling valve
  • Clogged particle filter

Thanks for the quick response.

Now I have opened the entire electrical circuit between EGR and ECU, everything looks new. Also measures no resistance on all 5 wires so these are OK. With the engine running, I also get the same measurements as the diagram.

Have tried several egr valves, can see that they do not respond to 'test' with the diagnostic device.

Could it be ECU/BSI related?

Remember I also get no communication with the ABS module..

Do you have the diagram for the ABS modul?

Thanks!
