1.2 EB2 / Puretech Timing Chain Conversion Kit

Unread post by GiveMeABreak »

Hi All

As per my post here: viewtopic.php?p=827137#p827137 regarding a potential Timing chain conversion for the 1.2 EB2 / Puretech Engines fitted to many Stellantis vehicles like Citroen, DS Automobiles, Peugeot and Vauxhall vehicles, it now appears we are closer to getting a kit for the conversion.

Thanks to 'Scottish Car Clan' for posting this info and link to the original video here:

... and the updated video confirming the kit availability:

So as explained, final costs to be worked out for import and customs, but likely to be about £500, compared to the approximate £800 for replacing a wet belt with a wet belt....

As I also mentioned in other posts, a rubber belt running in hot oil is just not a good idea and that being said, Stellantis have now gone back to a timing chain on their latest incarnation of EB2 engine, specifically the EB2LTDH2 Euro 6.4 variant. Note the significance being the 'EB2LT' part of the engine code as there are still some new Euro 6.4 EB2 engines that still have the wet belt.

So good news for those considering a conversion to prevent long term damage.

Is it available yet? If so has anyone used one yet?

I suggest you contact the company directly, as they are based in Holland. As said in the video, they are looking at exports etc., but here is the link and the email address is at the bottom:

Hi,
I did email the company and they told me they planned for this kit to be available to 'Professional Mechanics/Garages' from April 2025. They were looking for a UK distributor who could supply professional garages in a supply chain so they could offer a warranty on their product? I asked if I could order one as a DIY mechanic and they said it was not something they had considered, and if they did supply the kit, it would be without a warranty. That wouldn't bother most of us I am sure as we buy the cambelt kits without a warranty? They would not confirm price either, but if you add export fees, distributor costs, garage costs, VAT it is going to rack up the cost I think? Maybe you will start to see them on Ebay eventually?

This is interesting. I'm thinking of either buying a used C5X or a Pug 408 1.2 later this year but as new as possible eg from late 23. It is likely that they will still be under warranty so I'm assuming fitting such a kit would void this be it the standard or extended warranty? Fortunate that I have an approved PSA garage only 15m away 👍

Hi guys,
Still no news on this conversion kit! I have emailed the company and all has gone quiet?
So, i was wondering, as there is a new version of the engine EB2LTDH2 i wonder if the chain and cam gears/dephasers are compatible for a retro fit? (Maybe they have used a chain guide on the top like the vauxhall, or maybe fitted plastic guides like the BMW Mini). It has to be worth a look if anybody can get a look at the diagram/spec or even a working engine. Then all you need is the part numbers. Et Voila! Fix et simple infinit? Merci.

Hi buddy,
I must admit they didn't seem too interested in the UK, or Ebay kits for home mechanics. Maybe they have started being used by garages in the EU by now. I emailed them again ath end of last year as I was going to buy some and resell on Ebay? No reply??

Seems like they have just had slow manufacturing. New website and they are saying the first batch can now be pre-ordered and expects to be done by mid 2026:

"This product is currently available for pre-order. Orders placed now reserve units from the first production run, with an estimated delivery in the second half of 2026. Delivery timing is indicative and may depend on production scheduling." - https://www.pro-chain.com/c-7457391/pur ... hain-kits/

I wonder what the price will be and how hard it will be to find a distributor willing to sell to DIY-ers...

If I understand correctly, the price of the complete conversion kit will be around 900 British pounds.

£900!! Wow! Too expensive for me. Then the garages charge for fitting, then vat. The cambelt is not the only problem with these engines as we know. I am about to rebuild my engine, (subject to how much damage there is). I was going to fit this kit on the rebuild but at that price, no. You can buy a brand new engine on Ebay for £2900. I have not checked with Peugeot directly yet though. A low mileage used one for about £1200 delivered.

Is that with the 8mm chain?

Again, check that it's fitted with an 8mm chain.

No chain fitted. Maybe engine refurbishers will start fitting the chain in the future. As I understand it the new hybrid Peugeot engines have a timing chain instead of a belt system fitted from the factory? I read somewhere that that engine is not a like for like swap so it's not possible. I will certainly ask Peugeot though, if I decide on a new engine.
