NG4 Mutli Media Issue

Hi all, I have recently bought a nice C5 X7 tourer, a 2.2 HDi exclusive. I love the car but have one niggling issue. The NG4 multi media forgets the date and time when ever the car is shut down for 10 to 15 minutes or more, when I come back to the car the date is flashing some time in the year 2000 and the time is flashing at 0800 hrs. The unit doesn't 'forget' anything else like being able to pair automatically with my phone.

When I set the time/date the option to syncronize with GPS, then select the appropriate timezone seems unavailable, coulx this be the reason that the unit 'forgets' the date and time constantly? Or has my NG4 seen better days?

Don’t select the ‘Synchronise with GPS’ option. This is to do with the “N week rollover” issue that affected certain GPS systems some years ago.

Selecting this option will provide inaccurate GPS information including time and date settings.

Uncheck this option and see if this solves your issue if not report back.

I can't select the syncronize GPS option, no matter what I do.

You don't want to select it. It should be unticked, else please explain the issue why you can't select it??

Should be:
Press SETUP Button
Select DATE & TIME Function, OK to confirm
Select SET DATE & TIME, OK to confirm
The option should be displayed here somewhere.

The unit won't let me do it, no matter what I press I just can't select it.

I edited my post with instruction - can you confirm you have done this, but make sure you confirm the option selected by pressing the large jog wheel in the centre.

Last night I followed your instructions exactly, but this morning the date is flashing 01 01 2000 and the time 0800 again.

Ok, so the next thing is to check the vehicle's car battery - anything over 5 years old then it needs changing - C5 X7s are electrical equipment hungry with many ECUs, some of which use power when the vehicle is not running for systems like the suspension height check, the TPMS monitoring, and of course the alarm and RCD circuit waiting for a remote locking signal.

However there is one other thing to check. Make sure that the SHUNT fuse in the BSI in the passenger glovebox is in the Client / Customer position and NOT the Parc / Park Position.

If it's neither of these issues, then it may just be the unit itself. These may or may not be some form of capacitor on the motherboard that is no longer retaining backup power and causing settings to be lost - I can't say for sure as they don't make the internal details available. If you've exhausted the other possibilities, then you'll just have to live with it as these units are very rare now and expensive if they can be found. The unit is about 16 years old, so there is likely going to be failure of some components.

The battery was new in October and the shunt fuse is in the Client position. I'll either have to live with it or perhaps look at changing to an RNEG.

I will describe my last very similar problem with time and data. I after 5 min all was set 2000-00-01 and 00:00.

I my case it was CF Card ( in your maybe Hard Drive) not connected all ( from vibration was ejected partly ) I injected it back and its started to work properly
