According to the BBC news there may well be a light show that only occurs every eighty years or so, when a binary star system has a couple of days of nuclear fire. Here is the BBC article (which also tells you where to look);

Very much so, considering the age of the thing. Been aware of it for a long time but not in such depth.

I blame the aliens/time travellers.
