Fuel additive system

Unread post by Mechkev »

Hi,
I have a DS5 2.0 ltr HDi. Fault codes are P1446 fuel additive system additive quantity too low and P15B3 Signal: additive minimum level minimum value reached. I have fitted a new OEM tank with pump and filled it up with additive fluid but it wont let me reset the values or or tell the system that i have replaced the tank. I have tried the Bosch KTS, Autel and Hella diagnostic machines. Can anyone help please?

A decent scanner should be able to do this; you may have to do it in the engine ECU and the additive ECU and then clear the code in the engine ECU to get the light to go out.

We have the Bosch KTS and tried going into both the control units that you mention with no success. The live data does not seem to be reading the tank level, just shows 1.2 ltr with or without the plug connected. Struggling to find a wiring diagram, non on Autodata.

The additive tank level is not measured, it is a calculation from the amount you tell it has been put in and then every time the fuel tank is filled some additive is injected and it calculates amount left.

Thats interesting. Would these fault put the vehicle into limp mode?

If I understand these things it will put you in limp eventually because if the car thinks it is out of eolys it stops the regeneration of the dpf.

For filling up eolys I reset the counter in the engine and pump ecu. I you have replaced the pump I *think* you need to program it in and then prime it.

Hi

I don't know if this is relevent with your DS5 but my 2018 Expert 2.0hdi van has an occasional issue with the additive tank (P1434-96) and I've been using my Foxwell to tell it I've fitted a new tank and then I'm good for a while.

Anyway I bought the correct new PSA tank, identical numbers etc and filled it but the system wouldn't even see it.

After some research I learnt that it needed Diagbox connected to the PSA server etc to initialise the new tank.

My Lexia clone had died a couple of years back hence why I bought the Foxwell to put me on but so far it has done all I have asked of it. I found a friendly local garage that would do it for me but the chap in question was away so I put the old tank back on and haven't got around to sorting the new tank yet so just re-initialise the old tank every 3 to 6 months when the fault appears, not ideal I know.

I dont know the age of your DS5 so the PSA server etc may not be relevent but it caught me out.

Regards

Bobby

All sorted. Didn’t realise the key must be in the key holder before it will let the diag communicate with the car. Put the key on the holder, cleared all the faults and initialised the additive pump and hey presto good as new. Thanks for everyone’s help 👍
