207 thermostat housing

For anyone who has replaced the thermostat housing on a 1.4 tu3 engine, are there meant to be any locating dowels on the head? I suspect mine are missing.

Can’t seem to shake a leak which develops over time.

There are no locating dowels. Alignment is only by the bolts. I assume the alignment is not critical but both surfaces need to be flat.
You could try a plastic thermostat housing, they have a rubber gasket.
