508 throwing weird numbers and codes

Unread post by darbuck »

Hi all,

The 508 I bought has a running issue.
Codes are as follows:
P0215
P0096

Symptoms
Lumpy idle when cold. Drives nice until you accelerate then falls on it's face and engine management light comes on. I think it's regulator and fuse box under the bonnet. It doesn't cut out but the stumble is very noticeable it's only when you push to overtake etc. But it does seem to surge a bit more than it should at lower speed.

The data I am getting is weird. The battery voltage and engine speed is what is getting me.
Does my diagnosis make sense 🤔
Any suggestions?

Here you go Darren:
Fault Code: P0215
Description of Fault:
  • Main relay: Main relay stuck / Unwanted cut-offs. Main relay stuck.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • After idling and cutting of the powerlatch motor.
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • -
Symptoms:
  • Starting problem
Suspect Areas:
  • Engine relay unit

Fault Code: P0094
Description of Fault:
  • Rail pressure regulation: Limitation offset locked/too great.

Description of the diagnostics: The torque decalibration necessary to maintain the pressure is higher than a threshold.

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics:
The following conditions have to be met:
    - With the engine running
    - Ignition on
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes with several full load accelerations for 10 seconds.
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation speed limiter until the next time the ignition is switched on
  • Deactivation cruise control until the next time the ignition is switched on
  • Request for Delayed Engine Stop
  • Deactivation of the pilot and post-injection injections
  • Deactivation of the accelerometry strategies
  • Deactivation of the detection of loop difference on the fuel flow rate regulator
  • Deactivation of this compensation strategy of the injectors postinjection to postinjection
  • Deactivation of the hydraulic compensation strategies of the multiple injections
  • The ECU limits the fuel flow
  • Deactivation of the faults relating to the pressure in the fuel high pressure common injection rail
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: Warning lamp: MIL, Warning lamp: STOP
Symptoms:
  • Jerking/stalling
  • Unwanted acceleration
  • Noise
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Lack of power
  • Starting problem
Suspect Areas:
  • Engine ECU (Software not up to date)
  • Poor fuel or polluted fuel (petrol, deposit, etc.)
  • High pressure fuel circuit
  • Low pressure fuel circuit
  • Electrical harness
  • Connectors
  • Fuel injectors
  • High pressure fuel pump
  • Engine ECU

Ok, I've replaced with added in P0094 - but I bet you're regretting that now!

Ok thanks Marc. Yes and no,I could do without the hassle. I thought it was the regulator but could be just a software update. I'll ring and see if it needs a software update first. Then work through other I'll let you know how I get on.

Ok so Peugeot said no software update outstanding for the car. So back to trouble shooting. I wonder could the main relay in the under bonnet fuse box cause this. P0215 is the main relay and is used for fueling if I'm not mistaken. Could this be causing P0094 as well.

DW10B engine 140 bhp 2.0. I'm not sure, only bought it a few weeks ago. Book says full service with timing belt and water pump in May but can't be certain it was done
The coolant is very brown looking for a yolk that done 3000 miles since.

I would change the fuel filter first then, but these are known for problems with hp pump.

Ok I plan to service it at the weekend. What happens to the pump. Does it break up or just seize. I'll let you know how I get on after the service

Hi all, I finally got around to servicing the 508 and all the filters looked like they were in it for a long time. I got the heater matrix changed out as well the hardest part is getting the clips to seat correctly which took me ages to get right.
The coolant was absolutely disgusting, smelly and brown with gelatinous lumps in it. No surprise that it wasn't happy. She idles really nice now.
I have to bring it for a test drive though so will have to see if the fuel filter and fuel treatment gets rid of the regulator faults. I did however note a few sparkles in the fuel bowl so it looks like it might need a new fuel pump but I will leave it for a while and see how I get on.
Who ever serviced it last overtightened the sump plug and rung the hex. So I had to beat an over sized star drive into it to remove it. I had a spare sump plug in the sump off a MK 1 C5 that some of you may remember hydrolocked on me years ago.so threw that into it.
I am not convinced the water pump was changed when the timing belt was supposedly done in may, according to the service history.
