C4 Cactus - EOLYS related problems

Unread post by PasM »

Good Morning - I’m new to this forum and eager to understand what’s happening to my car. I own a C4 Cactus 2015 BlueHDI. My car dashboard displayed « engine fault : repair needed ». Upon diagnostic at the only Citroen car dealer in my country, the following Codes came up - P1434 96, P1435 00, P02CD 00 and FEB4.
The garage recommended to replace the additive tank FAP (reservoir additif FAP), additive pipe (tuyau alimentation additif), the fuel tank (reservoir carburant), joint reservoir 188, fuel filler pipe (tubulure remplissage carburant) and to add EOLYS fluide (poche additive).
The replacements seems very radical to me. I’m asking for clarification but they’re being very evasive in their replies and providing standard explanation that could be found on the web about Nox, Eolys but nothing about the very specific problems pertaining to my car besides that I didn’t fill up the EOLYS at 90000kms. My car is now at 108000.
I’ve asked if there’s no more Eolys fluid in the tank and they would reply. I’ve asked to link the P codes to the parts to be replaced and there again no reply. They’re now hiding behind Stellantis saying that they’ve followed the standard procedure and won’t provide further explanation.
If someone can help me with understanding these errors and if the dealer’s recommendations seem genuine. I’m really wonder whether the replacement of the tank is really needed!
Thanking you in advance

Ok, so I've had a quick look and there is a particular known problem with this engine (Euro 6.1 Emission Standard) on several PSA vehicles, including the Peugeot 2008. The same technical document is listed under your vehicle, so I'll summarise here for you:

The issue concerns the lighting of the diagnostic warning lamp with the following fault codes: P1434, P1435 in the Engine Management ECU and fault code FEB4 in the fuel additive ECU.

Fault Origin
Fuel additive supply pipe or fuel tank.

Service Action
  • Repair of the fuel additive supply pipe (Depending on the result of the check ).
  • Replacement of the fuel additive supply pipe (Depending on the result of the check ).
  • Replacement of the fuel tank (Depending on the result of the check ).

Parts required
1 Additive supply pipe (Part No. depending on vehicle specification) (if necessary).
1 Fuel tank (Part No. depending on vehicle specification) (if necessary).

Note: Refer to the repair methods concerning any additional parts to be obtained for this operation

So replacement of the fuel tank, the additive supply pipe are 2 possible outcomes. It doesn't specifically mention the additive tank itself as being replaced - only primed - unless this comes under the other parts that may be necessary as described above.

So they are following procedure as indicated.

Thank you so much for your assistance. Now it’s definitely clearer and reassuring that they are following the standard procedure. However, just to clarify…

Re: Fuel additive supply pipe or fuel tank. (I note the ‘or’)
(Replacement of parts depending on the result of the check)
What check would allow committing to a specific action? Is it still the initial diagnostic that I received or another complementary check? Because, the price tags for the pipe and the tank are worlds apart.

Also, I’ve asked them for parts references but they are ignoring the request. Is there a way to be availed of those?
Thank you in advance

You'll need to upgrade your membership for actual part numbers, as we have to pay for this ourselves, details below my response to the other parts of your question.

Check 1
Check the condition and connections of the fuel additive pipe:
  • If the fuel additive supply pipe is connected incorrectly with no damage (Coupe , Holed , Kinked ): Carry out repair 1
  • If the fuel additive supply pipe is damaged (Coupe , Holed , Kinked ): Carry out repair 2
  • If there are no anomalies: Carry out check 2
Check 2
Check the opening pressure of the valve in the fuel tank:
  • If the opening pressure of the diesel injector is lower than 100 mbar : Carry out repair 3
  • If the opening pressure of the diesel injector is higher than 100 mbar : Do not apply this document
Repair

Note: Always carry out the additional operation after the repair

Repair 1
Reconnect the fuel additive supply pipe.

Repair 2
Replace the fuel additive supply pipe.

Repair 3
Replace the fuel tank.

Additional Operation
Prime the circuit of the fuel additive pump using the diagnostic tool (Repair ? Repair pack ? Service action ? Draining - filling - bleeding ? Priming of the additive adding circuit.

Regrading the actual part numbers:

We can help if you need an original genuine part number, part diagram or vehicle factory build sheet and can't already find the info you need on the Forum. For this service, we do ask for a membership upgrade for official parts data as we are in turn charged for this. It will cover you for future part number requests for up to 3 years, so excellent value.

If interested, links are below, then provide your vehicle's VIN in full, which will be masked automatically when you submit your post.
