Lock issue

Unread post by MPH85 »

Evening, newbie here (please be gentle)
I’ve had a search but struggling to find an appropriate thread, sorry if this has been discussed.

Parners got an e-c4, 71 plate (2021). Alls been going fine up until a few weeks ago.
My key stopped locking/unlocking the car, thought the battery might be the issue as my partners fob worked. Replaced the battery on mine and but used my partners key. Fast forward and the same started happening to my partners key, was 5am going to work so grabbed my key and that also wouldn’t open the car. This resulted in him using the little pull out key (setting the alarm off which I’m sure thrilled the neighbours). The batteries I had here are getting old so I thought maybe they were the problem. Took it in to a shop to replace the battery, and same thing happened. This seems to be intermittent so looking for advice.
I’ve booked it in to Citroen today, but they can’t get it in until 10th October, the warranty runs out on 30th September so they’re also saying they won’t be able to cover it under warranty because the cover period has expired (any consumer rights experts out there, some advice on that would also be appreciated).

Just after some advice from you guys, if you’ve experienced this/similar, what the problem was, and if Citroen had to fix it, what sort of prices you were faced with

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum.

I believe (but I do NOT know, and I advise you to check) that if you have REPORTED a problem to the supplier before the warranty has run out it should count as within the warranty period, as the issue of them not being able to get it into the workshop before the warranty runs out is their problem and not yours.

That was my thought but apparently not (according to “customer services”). The dealership had the same opinion but they can’t authorise it and needed me to call and log it 😩

I wonder what the "Customer Services" (yeah, right; "Customer Disservices", more like) response to 'I wonder if Trading Standards would agree with your reasoning?' would be?

I did make that point, it was pretty much carry on and speak to whoever you like
