How to remove headlight switch on GS?

Hello, trying to remove the headlight switch from my 1973 GS but boths sides of the switch is bigger than the hole on column.

I pulled out the plastic piece, it was stuck but popped out. Drilled the rivets and cleaned the contacts inside, now switch works perfectly. I wonder why dipped beam works in both first and second position. CX light switch also works like this. Must be a Citroën design
