Can someone explain the newer versions of diagbox/lexia to me please.
I've had diagbox for quite a few years now, version 7.?? and its been brilliant with the various Citroens over the years, it does up to 2015 (and maybe newer) no problems. but our new van is a 2017 and although I've not tried my version yet I believe I need a newer version.
But everything seems to have changed with the newer version, I hear things like needing tokens and connecting to Citroen servers for it to work. I have the interface thing that plugs into the ODB2 port so I'm guessing that will still work, I'm hoping its a "full chip" one because the cheaper versions didn't seem to get mentioned at all back then. So if I get something like this off ebay will it do things like read and clear faults and program new keys, maybe re-set the DPF etc. or do things like this need connecting to citroen and giving them money.

On a side note I thought repairers had the freedom to be independent and not have to rely on a main dealer to repair cars, thats why the universal ODB2 socket was brought in. so how does that fit with Citroen making repairers pay them directly for access to certain parts of the software, its a monopoly.
Edit - also what is the box that plugs in-line with the VCI tool for that seems to be used on the newer versions?

Re: Newer diagbox software
V7 of diagbox supported offline configuration of ECUs up to about 7.65 and then upwards was vehicle-dependent if it would work or not as the move was made to ensure all ECU configuration had to be done online.
Version 9.** is now online configuration only, so it will work for diagnostics and maintenance operations, but won't work where any ECU or component configuration is required (configuring a new fuse box or supplies management unit for example).
This means that one needs to pay PSA for access to their servers to undertake any telecoding operations on a per vehicle basis.
This a) generates more income for PSA and b) reduces the number of people that can accidentally or on purpose stuff up their vehicles from not knowing what they are doing, because generally people won't muck around with the tools changing settings if they have to pay for times access to do so.
The additional module you may be referring to is the S1279 interface that is required for most commercial PSA vehicles like the Expert, Jumper, Dispatch and collaborative vehicles such as Fiat, Toyota and Ford, so the Aygo, the Nemo etc.

Re: Newer diagbox software
Thanks,I know a lot of this already though. What I don't understand though is what is telecoding and how far does it go? I get that changing a major ECU would need on-line connection but would changing the radio also need it, and as I say additional keys or supposedly replacing the DPF.
I guess you cant comment on the ebay link as it may be hooky software but what about the S1279 box, why do some vehicles need it and not others, I thought the OBD2 port was supposed to be universal, what does the adaptor do?

Re: Newer diagbox software
1) Telecoding is essentially ECU configuration / programming and all these functions on the new software are now online only. This obviously includes any coding or configuration of any ECUs.
2) Maintenance operations are not configuring or programming - so resetting the Eolys additive counter, resetting fault codes etc are fine to do, like replacing the DPF or pairing new fobs to the vehicle should all be fine.
3) I think I explained about the S1279 module in my last post - it is because of the collaborative engines or vehicles between the constructors, so the interface is needed for compatibility and to talk to some of the non-PSA systems on the vehicle.
