Hydraulic tube sizing

Unread post by Hadmund »

Does anyone know what the size of this hydraulic line is and what type of fitting id need to replace it?
It's leaking quite a bit of LHM while I'm driving the car or raising and lowering it. From what I've gathered it's a low pressure return pipe for the front activa cylinder on the left hand side (drivers side, as it's a Norwegian car).

The first picture is taken looking over the wheel while the suspension is on high.

The second picture is taken from underneath the car behind the gearbox

Sorry for the crap pictures. They're the best I could take under the light conditions. I know i could try to measure it but as its such a small and soft tube i was unsure if I'd get a accurate measurement.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's just a low pressure leakage return... The translucent hard nylon pipes simply push-fit into the rubber tube. Best to just pull one out and measure it with a pair of calipers.

That'll tell you the internal diameter of the pipe you'll need.

Be sure the new piece of pipe you use is LHM-proof. Some rubber can be very quickly attacked by LHM and it'll either go hard or turn into a soggy mess...

Test a bit by soaking it in dish of LHM for a week or so if you are not sure.

The last time I needed some I asked at the dealer's parts department and the guy pulled out a coil of it from under his bench and cut off a length.

Sorry for the late reply.
From what I've found online nitrile rubber is tubing is what im looking for as it's resistant to mineral based oils. There's a tubing specialist nearby that does a lot of large scale industrial stuff so fingers crossed they'll have some handy. I'll of course also test myself with some LHM.

Indeed, nitrile should be fine but for peace of mind do test it...
