More lights on dash than Christmas

Unread post by jackthelad92 »

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'll try not to be too long-winded.
My Peugeot 2008 Allure 1.6 Blue HDI has started displaying several fault lights.
1. Orange - "Tyre Pressure Monitoring Fault" with beeping noise. Checked pressure and reset the monitor but keeps happening. This is sometimes accompanied with the outside air temp showing anywhere up to -40 degrees or sometimes no temp or sometimes the correct temp.
2. Orange - "Engine Fault Repair Needed" with beeping noise.
3. Orange - "Adblue Emissions Fault" with beeping noise. Adblue was topped up couple of months ago and it is not warning me of low Adblue.
These happen one after the other upon starting the car in this order with the Service light staying on also.
Yesterday, whilst the car was running but stationary the battery warning light came on in red saying to stop the engine as there was no charging. My OH checked the battery with a tester and it was absolutely fine. This light didn't come on today.
We ran the car at 60mph in 4th gear and the Adblue warning went off but came back on after approx 3 miles today.
The one thing that worked yesterday but only temporarily was to wiggle the wires that go from the driver's door to the car. This cured all of the lights, everything was off - until approx a mile into a short journey today when the TPMS light came on + Service light, a short while later it was the Engine light and then approx 3 miles down the road the Adblue emissions light completed the set.
I have heard of TPMS and outside air temp being problematic on several cars.
Sorry for the long story and thanks in advance for any pointers or helpful comments.

First thing you really need is a proper Diagnostic.

You obviously have an electrical issue and these being CAN based vehicles, will have multiplexed architecture, so faults can have a knock-on effect on other systems.

The "We ran the car at 60mph in 4th gear and the Adblue warning went off" issue won't have anything to do with the Adblue system - that will of been a coincidence. This may help with getting the exhaust gas temperature up to encourage a regeneration of the particle filter if it is getting clogged, but won't affect the SCR (Adblue) system as this has no bearing on that.

Once you have some fault codes pop them up with your VIN and advise us if you have any non-standard electrical accessories fitted or an aftermarket head unit.

Thank you for your reply.
We have a code of P20E8 Reductant pressure too low.
The adblue warning is coming on but I do not get the mileage countdown.
It now looks as though we need to fit a new adblue tank which seems to be all too common.
As far as I know the car is all original with no aftermarket alterations.

Ok, so this fault code has a technical bulletin concerning this code which may or may not apply if you are getting UREA crystallisation between the UREA injector and the heated UREA pipe.

In some cases, the heated urea pipe can become detached on early models. This will lead to the UREA potentially crystallising and therefore causing a pressure issue, which is why you have this code.

So you need to investigate the piping from the tank to the injector and make sure it has not come away - but if the pipe is intact, then you may have crystals along the way that are causing the low pressure in the system and impairing functionality. Check at the UREA injector too for any signs of white crystal deposits.

So this may not mean a new tank, but does need investigation / checks and a clean up.

Thanks for that. We'll have a good look and fingers crossed 🤞 that we don't need to shell out for a tank.
