Gearbox error, won’t move from neutral

Unread post by bartosi »

It’s been good 3 weeks now since it all started and now it’s just happening 7/10 times.
Car starts with no issues however it gives and gearbox error message once trying to put it into gear. If the car is left in idle for at least 5min, I am able to restart it and it drives like nothing happened.
Does anyone had a similar issue and do you know whether there is a simple solution to it?
I’ve attached also a pic of the error codes, AA were able to read.

You have a fault with the clutch actuator:
Fault Code: P1755
Description of Fault: Clutch jammed: Coherence. Clutch actuator fault: incorrect position in relation to the reference value. Fault occurs :
  • In gear changing phase
  • In clutch opening phase
  • Absence of error on the clutch electrovalve and on the engine speed signal
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • After switching the ignition off and then back on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: If there is a problem with opening the clutch:
- Automatic mode deactivated
- Change of gear interrupted
If there is random closing of the clutch
- Emergency selection of neutral
- Change of gear prohibited as long as neutral is not engaged
If there is a problem operating the clutch
- Emergency request for stopping of engine provided engine close to idling speed
- Emergency selection of neutral
- Gear change deactivated
If the clutch is jammed open
Opening of the clutch
If there is a problem with initialisation of the closed position
No back-up mode
If there is a problem with opening the clutch
If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system: Stop and start function deactivated
If there is random closing of the clutch during the Stop and Start phase: Restarting in Stop and Start mode impossible

Warning:
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message (*) "SERVICE" warning lamp
  • Sport warning lamp
  • Snow warning lamp
  • Automatic or 6-speed piloted manual gearbox warning lamps (Orange PRND triangle)
  • Display of a "-" on the fascia panel
Symptoms:
  • Lack of power
  • Impossible to make the vehicle move
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Problem with automatic restarting of the internal combustion engine
  • Leaks
Suspect Areas:
  • Clutch position sensor
  • Pressure sensor
  • Electrovalves
  • Gearbox ECU
  • Electropump
  • Electrical harness
  • Clutch
  • Level of oil in the gearbox reservoir
  • Clutch release bearing
  • Leak on the clutch control
  • Pump

Fault Code: U1208
Description of Fault: Fault in the information transmitted by the engine management ECU : Value received incorrect. No information sent by the engine ECU (Foot throttle pedal ; Engine speed ; engine torque)
The time of appearance of the fault code is 1s
Context of appearance of the fault code - The following conditions have to be met:
- Ignition on
- The starter motor is not operating
Technical precision on the context of appearance of the fault code: Supply voltage correct between 8V and 16V (Pin 3 of the 28-way connector)
Absence of fault codes U1000 - U1003 - U1108
Conditions for Fault to clear: Reception of 20 consecutive items of valid information
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Possibility 1
Engine speed fault
- Change to neutral and no gear can be engaged
- Opening of the clutch when close to idling speed
- Take-off deactivated (With the vehicle stopped)
- If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system : Stop and start function deactivated
Possibility 2
Accelerator pedal position fault
- Automatic mode deactivated
- Change to neutral and no gear can be engaged
- Opening of the clutch when close to idling speed
- Take-off deactivated (With the vehicle stopped)
Possibility 3
Fault with engine temperature and torques
- Gear engagement downgraded
- Crawling deactivated

Warning Lamps
Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message (*) If there is a fault on the information on accelerator pedal position or engine speed
"SERVICE" warning lamp
Sport warning lamp
Snow warning lamp
Automatic or 6-speed piloted manual gearbox warning lamps (Orange PRND triangle)
Display of a "-" on the fascia panel
Symptoms: Possibility 1
Engine speed fault
- Automatic mode deactivated
- Change to neutral and no gear can be engaged
- Take-off deactivated
- Difficult/impossible to change a gear
Possibility 2
Accelerator pedal position fault
- Automatic mode deactivated
- Change to neutral and no gear can be engaged
- Take-off deactivated
- Difficult/impossible to change a gear
Possibility 3
Fault with engine temperature and torques
- No customer complaint
Suspect Areas:
  • 28-way harness of the piloted manual gearbox ECU
  • Engine ECU
(*) According to equipment and engine.

Many thanks for such a prompt response! Do you think there is anything I could try doing myself or is it something which requires garage intervention? As you probably noticed, my car knowledge probably goes as far as changing the bulbs or fuses..

These systems can be quite complex to diagnose and to be honest you are probably better off going to Citroen who will have experience with these piloted systems.

There is a technical bulletin for the P1755 error that concerns:
Reading the fault codes.
Gearbox programming.
Replacement of the gear control piloting actuator (if necessary).
Replacement of the clutch bearing (if necessary).

However that presumes there are no other fault codes present - which should be dealt with first. So either way it needs a thorough diagnostic. Citroen have a standard £120 inc. VAT charge for up to 1 hour of diagnostic time, but it may be time well spent if they can determine the issue and resolve it for you much more quickly. They may even knock of some of the cost of the diagnostics if the work is done there.

Hi, I have the same issue with 2014 eat6 grand picasso. I didn't check the error codes. Did you manage to solve it?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum but have used it a few times through Google. The advice is excellent!!

I currently have the same issue as above: My 2014 Citroen C4P with won't leave neutral and has the same warning as above. I've been to an independent Citroen specialist who did the diag with the "P1755" error code returning. As above, restarting and waiting 5 minutes seems to help the car decide to go into gear, after which, it drives normally, including starting, parking, start-stop. Everything.

The independent garage suggested a new clutch and flywheel, but the engine isn't lumpy, and the clutch isn't slipping OR biting. Is there any chance the sensor has failed and is giving a false warning or, as with my last C4P, where the sensor wiring had worn through? I have a reasonable level of mechanical experience, this something I can check myself?

Appreciate any advice,

Gordo
