RNEG to RNEG2

Post by shelleyamy »

Hello

Car: 308cc 2011

I have just replaced the original RNEG with a RNEG2 (including display)
All went well, except no sound. My car has the optional JBL amp fitted, so i had to reinstall that with Diagbox, and then all ok.

The reason for the upgrade was the chance to get newer maps and music BT streaming.

Here's what the RNEG2 has come with:

Unit reference 9806703977
CD number. 8643
SW Version -unit. RNEG2.75.C5

Any help/advice what to update to and where to get them from would be great.

One more point, i haven't yet been able to get the remote USB lead, so i believe i can update by CD????

Thanks
Mike

As you don't have the USB fitted you won't be able to update the maps. I would leave the firmware well alone as you have a reasonably high level firmware - upgrading it further can mean a dealer visit if you try to upgrade to the latest version, so be warned. The ECU can become locked into secure mode during an upgrade to 2.86 and PSA server access via Diagbox is required to configure it.

Otherwise, loss of functionality follows. The issue you will then have is that your vehicle VIN will no longer correspond to the PSA server database and it will expect a RNEG unit, not an RT6 (as it was not fitted at factory) and they may refuse to configure it.

Plenty on that in the RT6 Forum:

Maps are available from Peugeot:

You can get a USB cable from Peugeot too.

I mostly want to be able to use 7 digit postcode input.
Is there a way to do this without the risky updates?

There is no guarantee.

Your vehicle has CAN2004 and you should be able to get postcode entry with firmware V2.80. According to my data an upgrade from 2.75 to V2.80 (not V2.86) should be possible without issues.

I'll send you a PM with further info.

No worries, best of luck and if all is working well, I suggest you stick on that firmware to avoid issues.

Hello everyone.

This topic is of the utmost interest to me. Less than 48 hours ago, I got a 2010 2.0hdi c5 tourer, that's replaced my 2008 1.6hdi c5 tourer.

The car is in great condition mechanically, though the interior needs some work. What really disappointed me was the radio. It's incredibly awful by itself (clunky interface, keeps resetting itself, gets stuck on mp3 CD tracks, laughably hopeless satnav), but even worse when compared with the RD45 I installed myself in the previous car. What really, really annoys me is the lack of BT audio streaming, as that was my main source of music.

There's no doubt in my mind I want to upgrade my head unit, and this rneg2 seems ideal from what's been said in this thread. I'd just like to ask if there's anything to keep in mind when looking for one. Can get one out of a Peugeot? Are UK ones compatible with LHD models (I live on the continent)?

As Al Murray's pub landlord says, you're all beautiful people, and thanks in advance

The RNEG2 or RT6 as it is better known is a Magneti Marelli unit and much better than the previous MyWay that you appear to have.

You will also need a new display screen if considering this as the RT6 requires a High Res screen. The MyWay uses a low res display and it is not compatible with the RT6.

The RT6 does support Bluetooth streaming, but the sounds will never be as good as using a USB source with your music files on to be honest.

Also, be aware that the RT6 units use flash memory for the operating system, mapping and user files and this will fail sooner or later as we are seeing a lot of at the moment. Once the NAND cells approach their write limit, you will start to get errors and corruption, so the point being is if you are going to get second hand unit check the date of the unit on the back or the year of the model it came from.

Once you have had it VIN coded and configured correctly for your vehicle's specific options (you will need to do this), you may want to back up your data using the info in Part A of the:

How to Replace the Internal MicroSD Card - RT6

Then you will always have a back up of your user configuration data and the vehicle's configuration parameters that you can restore later if you need to replace the card.

Thanks again for the reply, Marc!

You've managed to answer a small doubt I had, which is that the RNEG2 and the RT6 are the same unit. I was aware that the screen had to be replaced too as you've addressed this in other threads. Thanks for the link to the SD card replacement thread, it's going to be a massive boon.
