Citroen ds5 LCD screen

Post by vrainer »

Having problems with my LCD screen. One day half the screen just randomly disappeared. Had been for a couple years now. Had a few people look at it all said they whole screen needs replacing. However, when getting a bulb changed in my front lights, when turning the engine back on the screen appeared like nothing had happened. I mean it was faulty for at least two years. It lasted a whole week with the full screen. It has since disappeared again. Any clue if it can be just a faulty connection? Been quoted £1000+ for a new screen 🤯
Had nothing but problems since I’ve owned this car.

There's no way to tell with intermittent issues - you really need to get it diagnosed to see if there are any clues as to a data connection / CAN fault or whether the unit has an internal issue like the graphics chip / controller. The graphics controller can often be ruled in or out as a result of a test, but I'll need to have your VIN first to see if this is applicable. Pop your VIN up (automasked on post submission) so I can see which system you have.

If you shine a torch on the screen can you make out any graphics (you may have to angle the torch somewhat)? What sometimes happens on LCD type screens is that the backlight circuit fails, so although the graphics are there they are not being illuminated (by the backlight) and so are not visible. If the backlight circuit HAS failed it may be possible to get it repaired (provided it does not use any weird components), as this is quite a common failure for normal LCD monitors. I would expect to see 1 per month on client calls, and our workshop repairs these and puts them back into circulation.

I am aware that this appears to be an intermittent issue, but I have encountered screens that will work for an hour or so and then the backlight goes off. This can be caused by a 'dry' solder joint.

That's is very likely a new screen required, as per the looks of it and the official diagnosis from the description / pictures where parts of the display are not showing.

I assume the reversing camera is also showing similar symptoms when activating reverse gear?

You have the RT6 system and a new one is not just under £1200 retail inc. VAT. You could look to getting a second hand one on ebay or other places.

However, I should point out to you that when checking your VIN, your vehicle has an outstanding after sales campaign recall due on it. I can't tell you exactly what, but I suggest you contact Citroen directly and tell them you've been advised that there is recall that needs doing. They will ask for your Registration or VIN. The work won't cost you anything, but I'd get it booked in as soon as you can. They'll be able to advise what it is when you call them.

Going back to the screen, this is what you want:
