At my wits end..

Some on here will be familiar with my ‘journey’ with my S2T1 GTI Turbo
I’ve spent lots of time and effort getting it to a workable useable state slowly eradicating it’s foibles, mostly engine electrics...
I thought I’d cracked it, it was in daily use, it was lovely, it’s recently rattled off a monster trip to and back from Lake Annecy and a raid to Yorkshire and back, interspersed with normal local driving
Last weekend, it cut out and died, idling in traffic, completely out of the blue.
Here are the symptoms
Rev counter starts to flick and jump, throttle becomes completely unresponsive, it splutters and dies
It will usually restart, then do it again
When I can make it run, and I did get it home it’s as if it has NO torque and needs lots of revs and has an unresponsive throttle
I’m pretty certain it is NOT the following
Either of the fuel relays
Air leak
Crank sensors
Fuel pump
Coils and leads
Alternator
It will start and idle, for say 1-2 minutes, then the symptoms kick in
It’s done this before but I thought I’d sorted it
The fact that it was just sitting in traffic, not moving or particularly hot , so nothing moving or rubbing points to an intermittent failure of something but WHAT

Ground connections all really clean and sound?
Common fault on this generation of Citroens - a BX19GTi of ours did exactly what you describe.

I’ll check em but seems odd to have just happened while calmly idling........
They have been cleaned before
