An update for anyone interested in my GTI T2 rebuild, modernisation
The people developing the new ECU now have their car consistently running and a first dyno run at 1 bar boost resulted in 230bhp and close to 300lb/ft of torque, that’ll do for me!
I have sourced a DTR T2 gearbox, and have a custom clutch coming from Helix, so hopefully it’s engine and box back in before the weather turns.......
While said engine and box were out the car went to Plaeides who re-did all the engine bay and subframe hydraulic lines, as usual they did a superb job
I’m trying to rectify all the things that don’t work so well on CXs so I’ve removed the entire heater tower, blower and behind dash gubbins with the intention of running a modern stand alone heat/AC unit
Oh, and I’ve got a set of the 16” T slot wheels from frabuclassic......Lovely!
Long way to go yet but I’m determined to finish this

Re: GTI T2 ‘restobuild/mod’.....
Lots and lots of progress since last post. The Engine, and DTR2 gearbox, and Helix clutch are back in, that was fun!
Rebuilt driveshafts, all new hydraulic plumbing. New larger radiator, reconditioned intercooler, new turbo, hoses, belts, etc.... fluids in.
New fuel pump, filter, lines, 3bar pressure regulator, all seems to work ok. Engine spins over nicely without plugs.
And.........the new ECU, loom, coil sticks and sensors are here now!
Just gotta fire it up now

Re: GTI T2 ‘restobuild/mod’.....
So, a fantastic day today for this project. The bespoke loom, ECU, new injectors, all new sensors, fuel pump and filter, turbo, radiator, clutch, diesel gearbox, turbo and boost plumbing etc, etc....all came together and IT WORKS!!!!!!!
Ignore the messy wiring and layout, I just wanted to get it running. A massive thank you to Karl at Emerald tuning who has been superb all the way through.
A CX GTI Turbo 2 now running on completely new engine management.
No more air flow meter, AEI or fuel computers, old wiring, etc and fully map-able and adjustable boost.
A very good day!!!

Very well done! Is it right to assume Emerald can supply the solution for someone wanting to convert?

Yes, been a lot of work. They would rather we get my car completely up and running just to iron out any potential ’bugs’ but this is looking so promising
I’ll keep posting updates

Re: GTI T2 ‘restobuild/mod’.....
An update on the rebuild, I’ve made lots of progress. Most of the engine bay wiring is done and tidied, the two looms that used to run the AEI/coils, etc and the AFM etc have been removed and coiled up and bagged, and now sit roughly where the washer bottle goes. I’ve stuffed some of them into the wing cavity but there was just too much! Original injection loom gone too.
The car now runs ,drives, stops, and has all lights working, with new wiring and connectors where needed. The new heater A/C unit has been ‘dummy’ installed and plumbed up, and has had a switch temporarily jury rigged and hey presto, a CX with powerful heater fans and rapid hot air. I have to duct it all to the correct places but that should be fairly straightforward. I’d always intended to get the exhaust made, and then paint the car before the MOT but I now think I’ll do it the other way round, so just one seat, one seat belt, and hopefully, on the road to gently start ironing out the inevitable’bugs’. I’d love to be able to drive this to the South of France late summer, let’s see......
