Immo problem Clio mk2 E7J635, 1.4 L 8v, ym. 2000

Post by ejuvonen »

Hello from Finland !
I have Immo problem.
Normal crank; the red Immo-light stays plinkig, but when I press remote control down and then turn key, it works fine. It cranks and engine fires.
I have Clio E7J635, mk2, 1,4 L ym. 2000
Wiring diagram would be nice from engine compartment ( ECU ) and also the relay unit ( BMT 4 ), which is on the left side of dashboard !
Here is picture of ECU system diagram, but this is newer model, perhaps mk3 or 4.

Welcome to the FCF ejuvonen, I have a Couple of Clio II, Phase 3 cars (1.2 16V) in my maintenance fleet from 2003/2004 but not come across your problem so far :-D

This is the best I could find on the net for wiring diagrams. It is for the Clio II but from 2001 so may not apply in your case. Through Marc and others, this forum has the chapter and verse on everything PSA via direct access to PSA information, but doesnt have the same access on Renault.

https://cardiagn.com/renault-clio-ii-fr ... -diagrams/

One of the "known" problems with the Clio is chafing of the wiring loom at the back of the engine on the 1.2 adjacent to the ECU which on the 1.2 has some kind of metal protection "box" which chafes against the loom. Can cause all sorts of odd and intermittant consequences. I see you have a 1.4 so maybe that doesnt apply.

One of the other "starting" problems was caused by a faulty crank position sensor, or one which had picked up some rusty crud from the flywheel. I replaced it anyway.

Hope it is a little help, but I guess your problem may be something you will have to research and solve yourself, or work round it. If you do get to the bottom of it, post it up here it may help others :-D

Thank you Neil !
I emphasysthe following:
" Normal crank; the red Immo-light stays plinkig.
When I press remote control down in the key and then turn key, it works fine. It cranks and engine fires."
Cetral locking is causing normal fuction !

Hi try this video it could describe your problem. You could even e.mail that firm, describe the problem, and they may be able to fix/reprogram your key, or let you know how to do it. You will see that the key is not recognised in the video...flashing immobiliser light but the central locking still works. Maybe when you press the button with the key in the ignition it make an electrical contact to allow the key to be recognised and allow the car to start.

Renault Clio keys have always been troublesome, often causing a non-start problem on all the models we have seen over the last 12 years. This video will help if you suspect the car has a faulty car key. By showing what the immobiliser light does with both a faulty and new key, you will know what to look for.
If you have a Renault Clio that will not start, before you dive in and start taking it apart looking for the fault, take a quick look at the immobiliser light. Often, a faulty key is overlooked because the signals that car is giving out, the immobiliser light, is not understood
For more information about Renault car keys please visit our blog http://thecarkeyman.co.uk/renault-cli... or call us on 01522 514141. We are a UK based company in the city of Lincoln and are happy to help you if you are stuck.

Some more. To day I got Clio into my hands.
I took all the relays off from cocpit and engine and also 433 MHz reveiver which is located central consol.
None was effecting to Immo. Both key worked like all the relays would have been on.
Here is my keys.
Left hand side key is passive key to 133 KHz. It work normaly.
Right hand side key needs to press key switch before it works.
It likes that active key switch should work as an passive. No battery. Like there is missing that 133 kHz circuit.

Did you watch the video? It replicates exactly what you describe.

Before going into what may be fruitless investigation, I would rule out the key with a simple e-mail to that firm.
You have nothing to lose. They will either say they can help you, or they can't.
Their contact page is here where you can fill a form in about your query or just e-mail direct.

contact page https://thecarkeyman.co.uk/contact/

email steve@thecarkeyman.co.uk
These are your symptoms from your first post which you could include
Key works the central Locking.
When you put the key in the ignition the immobiliser light flashes constantly and the car wont start
When you put the key in the ignition and press the button at the same time, the key is recognised and you are allowed to start the car.
I would say it points to the Key.
Keep it simple..Rule that out as a cause first.

Thank you your co-operation !
Well, another key that wasn’t coded in the car. Coded after Tantalum replacement.
The ESR was 3.2. Now it's 1.6. No more flashing light.
The second key, which works with the button down, was not corrected by the tantalum replacement, i.e. the button must still be pressed down.
The fault in this key is on the copper coil I had replaced. I ordered from Coilgraft, but the coil is different in structure and this
might be the reason the energy is not enough to ignite VDD!
