I've got a '99 206 GTI, and the radio has been a bit intermittent. The PO told me that the CD player had been filled with coins, so no longer worked, so I was using it as a radio only. It also cuts out sound over bumps, and can be brought back to life by percussive maintenance; until yesterday. I had some loud pops through the right hand door speaker, and then a burning smell and smoke from the dash. The radio still turns on and looks OK, but is putting out no sound.
I'm assuming the cheapest fix is to buy a £6.50 ISO faceplate and loom adapter, which I've done, but do I need to be concerned about anything else?
E.g.
- I assume that the steering controls will stop working regardless (I can't see any products to keep this with pre-MUX 206s.
- Do I need to disconnect the battery before I start?
- will the dash top display stop working entirely?
