CX RHS indicator comes on with headlights

Unread post by buxtonmarauder »

First post here, so treat me gently please 😁

1986 CX... Indicators work fine when headlights are not on.

When headlight switch is turned on then the RHS indicator illuminates (constantly, no flashing)..

Any suggestions for where I might start looking for a solution?

Thanks for any help

Almost certainly an earthing problem. Check the earthing points for both headlights.

Any update on this? I know it's most likely the headlamp earth (although conceivably could have been tail lamp earth/short too) and was an easy fix but I don't like a cliffhanger! :D Also Hi from Congleton, do you get the CX out & about much? Would be excellent to see one in the "wild" as it were, one of my favourite Citroen models since a ride in a Turbo 2 as a kid in the early 90s. Always wanted one but could never afford a viable project/if one were affordable it was always 100's of miles away :(

I've "solved" the problem by avoiding driving it in the dark so far !

It actually lives in my MIL's garage in Macclesfield at the moment so I don't really have easy access to spend time looking for the culprit..

Weather in Buxton isn't really the most hospitable place for a 34 yr old French classic !

Thanks for checking in :-)

Ahh, as long as there's no Muttley's around (or indeed Peter, lest he take the jack to some poor bugger) to hijack it then it's likely safer down Macc way ;) Sounds like you've done better on the MIL front than many too so that's a bonus. Can imagine it wouldn't be the greatest up there in winter, even if we've had it easy so far. That method of problem solving works for me, it's a car to be seen in anyhow! Fingers crossed for a simple fix when it comes time anyway.

ha ha ha... you have to be of a certain age to even dissect this cryptic message..

"Muttley's around (or indeed Peter, lest he take the jack to some poor bugger)"

In fact, Peter chucked the jack at some &%$t 10 mile down the road, so we made him go and get the bu&&er back...

Actually went to see them at the Apollo Dec 2018.... Lots of fat, balding, middle aged men.. I fitted right in :-)

I dunno, it were Charlotte who switched me on to them & I'm a mere 38 years young :D (Not really, no such "luck" haha first I heard of them was back in '01 when some fat b@s7@rd at work suggested I might like their tunes!)

It's good to know they're at it again, seen a couple of youtube recordings of recent gigs, uploaded by another name that rings a bell from work!

Hello!

Remove the hazard flasher switch. It can cause such an error.

Finally got round to looking at this and, as suggested by several sages, it looks like an earth issue. In the process of identifying this I've noticed that the bulb holder for the sidelight on the RHS is broken.. Any bright ideas where to get hold of one ?

cx basis doesn't appear to have such a thing in stock.

Pics of the LHS part that is complete can be seen here..

ps.. @ekjdm14 Was out driving round Congleton today 😁

You could try these folk...
http://www.citroenclassics.co.uk/
who advertise both new and used parts for CX.

Thanks for the suggestion.. no luck I'm afraid...

Seems like this kind of thing could be a good use for a 3D printer... if I had one !
