2004 clio front fog lamp difference?

Post by JC2019 »

Hi all, new member here.
My sister has just turned 17 and has bought a 2004 clio 1.2 16v D4F712.
It's got a few issues (no surprise eh?) which I'm sorting out for her none of which are major really.
One thing is the o/s front fog lamp is smashed. I've pulled it off and I'm looking for a replacement.
The trouble I'm having is all the ones I've found have the same part number but are visibly different on the back...looking at the production date on the replacement ones are all around 2001/2002.
With my unit has a date of 2004. So they have obviously updated the unit but kept the same part number.
My question is would it matter that an older one is fitted? Were there any issues with the older units hence the change? Photos to show the difference. The earlier part has 2 circular parts on the back. The later part doesn't.
Thanks

Found this off wiki
"In 2004,(Clio II) Phase 3 followed starting on a 53 Plate, this was just some small changes to bring it up to date. The front bumper was changed giving it a wide lower grille and the foglights were bulged out at the side (cars not equipped with foglights remained using the older ph2 bumper),"

If it fits, and the electrical connector is the same, and it works then you are 99.9% OK.

The only 0.1% reservation would apply to those who look for 100% originality :-D

I was lucky to find a group of about 3 mark II Clio's without cars on top of them at a local old school scrapyard. You may be pushed to find a scrapyard as old school as mine where you wander about and take stuff off yourself like the old days, but I am sure you could match up your 2004 style lamp without too much difficulty if its important.

Thanks for that Neil.
It looks like an identical fitment and connector.
Luckily I kept looking around and a newer one popped up that matched mine so I bought that one instead.
Funnily enough I do have a old school scrap yard like that about 20mins from me, but just not got round to getting up there yet.
Cheers
