Megane Speedo Problem

I have a 98 Megane, Speedo decides to jump from 30mph to 80 mph and the goes absolutley mental. Can anyone help me.

I think you'll find the Megane has an electric dash not shaft driven but what it sounds like is that the test for the display is interferring or the button is sticking.If your car has the push button scroller for MPG read out on the right hand stalk, before you turn the car on press and hold and then turn on the ignition but don't start the car, the car should then go through a display test sequence.Maybe try spraying a tiny bit of WD40 into the button and pressing it a few times.
