Seals arrived tonight so just need to take the rack apart again. The oil seals are all the right size so happy bunny.this is a kit for a 01 to 08 c5 for anyone who finds their x7 bleeding out via the rack.

Ok lads tried to fit the seals the seal goes into the centre of the rack was too big by about .5 mm I got it it in but the shaft wouldn't slide in it. I think I can say that it's a fail 😭. I have decided to just buy another rack and hope it lasts a year or two with the mod to the pinion housing. I won't be wasting any more time or money on rebuilding a rack after this🍋. I'll drive her for a year or so and then sell on if anything goes wrong with it. I did however get the tailgate fixed so just tyres and a rack now.

Thanks for the update, was wondering how you were getting on, sorry to hear it's more bad news

If your pipe is corroded where it goes into the rack the I know they've got a fix for this.
I'll second that. I have just had them recon my rack and replace the low pressure pipe end.
I had a reconditioned rack fitted to my 2011 C7 Exclusive just over two years ago. Last MOT, a couple of weeks ago, told me there was a weeping steering hose.
Contacted Steering Specialists in Wakefield, they didn't want to know. Said there workshops are very busy and it is not worth there while just for a hose.

So it looks as though I might have to part company with an otherwise excellent, low-mileage car!

Nobody seems to want to touch these cars with a barge pole. I bought a rack the only rhd available on eBay 2 weeks ago and the global shipping program lost the bloody thing, I just can't win with this car.

The courier probably had a C5 with a leaky rack and took a fancy to it!

Damn....

That's what I was thinking, it's terrible to think that it's the first conclusion we jump to because it's the most likely possibility. I wonder has anyone tried a rack out of a 508

Totally different part. As far as racks go the C5 X7 rack variant is unique (in more ways than one with the poor quality steel / design), so not shared with any other model .

Thanks Matt the only thing keeping it off the road at this stage is the rack so either it arrives or I get a refund and buy one locally. I'll post up when I know more.
